If you can show me that Tippett has any semblance of the quality of playmaking that McKinnon has, who is probably the best playmaker in the entire NHL, then maybe I'll change my mind. - MJL Well, I wasn't referring to his playmaking skills. It's quite obvious that Tips (like that?...it sells) doesn't possess anywhere near the playmaking skills of Mackinnon. I was referring to his speed and bull like mentality when he is carrying the puck up ice.

Yeah, your buddy SSB tried to say that Tippett is like Kessel in his prime. I don't see that at all. In fact, they are nothing alike. - Phillywhiteout
Not at all. Kessel was finesse and tried to avoid contact at all costs. |

Torts certainly has buy in from the players. As we see, the teams with the most skill don’t always win. Coaching matters. - landros 2

So he's like McKinnon except for all the ways he's not like McKinnon? McKinnon is more finesse than bull. McKinnon has a ton of dangle in his game. They're really not at all alike in style of play.

Tippet is straight ahead and drive to the net and rip it. I love that about him. Kessel could score off the rush but he could also dangle, draw defenders to him and set up teammates and make plays. Tippett doesn't have that ability. - MJL

Yes, perhaps Mac is a better stick handler and play maker, but I have certainly seen his speed bursts and the ability to bull his way around opposing players, and that's what reminds me of Tips! |

Okay.
Another poster made the best comparison, which I was also thinking about and that is Kris Kreider. A goal scorer with speed, straight ahead play but not a big point producer due to lack of playmaking. The complete lack of playmaking, which is McKinnon's best trait is what makes that a bad comparison with Tippett. |

Just realized Barkey was the pick from Florida in the Giroux trade. Briere better bring back Fletcher's trade app! |

The guy he reminds me of is Chris Kreider. Big, strong, fantastic skater who can play physical if need be. Krieder has shown to be a solid goal scorer as he has progressed in his career. The deal to bring in Tippet is looking like a decent return by Fletch…. - landros 2
still a first to pick and that 3rd is 2023 is looking good.

It kind of makes you think that Tippet might actually develop into an elite forward doesn't it? - jd250

Torts and the rest of the staff can't coach offense.

I trade Walker at the deadline if the price is right. What I mean is a 1st round pick or two 2nd round picks. Anything lower in this draft is not worth losing him for IMO. Risto is also a candidate if the Flyers retain a little salary. Teams are sometimes willing to give up more for a player with term because its cost certainty for them. - jd250
so if your price isnt met you et him walk for nothing? |

If the Flyers keep playing at this level. They're not going to trade anyone. - MJL

He has a track record of doing very well in his second year with teams and then it starts to fall off. He spends the first year evaluating and getting rid of players he doesn't want, and then the second year is the pinnacle of his tenure. |

Strong win vs a good team. I keep waiting for the wheels to come off but they keep surprising me. Keep it up boys. When we have the young players as the ones leading the charge, winning isn’t a bad thing. - Hextall271
Yeah, me too. Just like I keep waiting for NJD and Carolina to get red hot, and they keep stumbling.

I think the cat is already out of the bag. They are a hard working team that has bought in. They never seem to get outworked and they have pretty much been in on every game…For what they lack in elite talent they do have over all depth. To me the addition of a healthy Coots has been huge….followed by a really solid 6 d in the line up most nights. The improvement in their own end has helped both goalies who have really been very good.
I’ve been surprised how good they look and how much more enjoyable they are to watch. |

It’s funny even guys that butted heads with him in the past talk about how he helped them in some way. Listened to Hartnell on SC’s the other day….talked about how he was known for always taking to many dumb penalties and how Torts started to sit him in the 3rd period of games or healthy scratch him. Hartnell said that he actually got threw to him and took very few bad penalties in his last year or so. Said basically how he wished as an 19-20 yr old he had Torts as a coach. |
