It's Torts second year here. He has a track record of doing very well in his second year with teams and then it starts to fall off. He spends the first year evaluating and getting rid of players he doesn't want, and then the second year is the pinnacle of his tenure.

Who’s the next head coach here? Jonsey’s best bud Berube? Brad Shaw?

we/I said prior to the season, if the young players took a step forward/played well, Coots was Coots and got the goaltending that this team would not finish bottom 10, they would be a playoff bubble team. Just over 1/2 through and all those things have happened but to their credit (players/coaches) they are better than a bubble team. Lets see where it finishes but they get all the credit for what they have done. It is why they play the games, you never know.

On pace for 102 points. I believe that will be good enough for 2-3 in the division. Pretty impressive.

Yeah, me too. Just like I keep waiting for NJD and Carolina to get red hot, and they keep stumbling.

Carolina has pretty much righted their ship. With NJ, it's about injuries. Hamilton has been out most of the season and Hughes keeps getting hurt. They also have poor goaltending.

While I am starting to believe this team is a playoff caliber team, the remaining schedule features mostly Eastern Conference teams. I expect them to be up to the challenge but there is plenty of season left. Important games. Regulation wins.

That said, what a treat to wake up and see the Flyers in 2nd place only 2 points behind the Rags. Let's go boys!

Saturday will be another strong test. Hopefully another impressive win.

Let's keep this rolling.

That poor guy is forever tied to his draft acquisition because it meant so much to fans. They were either frustrated and decided to never give him a chance, or they thought this was the beginning of a new era and the lucky devil who was picked at that spot would lead us back to glory.

Funny enough, the guy he was basically acquired for shared a similar story. We were all gobsmacked at the sudden upheaval of a successful and exciting team. A homegrown group who was easy to enjoy and all seemed to embrace that Philly attitude. Poor Schenn will have always been looked at as a symbol of that change, and he shared that polarity amongst fans just as Frost does.

Not entirely the same of course, but that’s how I see it.

Have you watched the Capitals at all this year? I've only seen part of 3 games but I don't think they can keep up with the Metro. Not sure what others are saying about them.

Isles may be right there. Pens always right there. Devils goaltending might keep them out.

Yeah, your buddy SSB tried to say that Tippett is like Kessel in his prime. I don't see that at all. In fact, they are nothing alike.
- Phillywhiteout

Yeah, while names like Lindros, Primeau and Nathan McKinnon are being used as comparables.

ESPN power poll up this morning...3 players featured in the top photo. Quinn Hughes, David Pastrnak and front and center in the middle Samuel Ersson. Guess the "experts" are starting to realize what some of us already know.

That's Hart, not Ersson.

New leadership in place but I expect them to move (at the very least) one of the UFA dmen. This season's performance probably takes any trade of a forward off the table. Especially if we are still battling for 2nd/3rd spot in Metro.

It's been a few years since we've experienced meaningful hockey...

Not much. I think the Cap held up for a while but I think they're out. It will be a grind but unless the wheels fall off, the Flyers will be in the mix until the end. It will be interesting to see how the Flyers brass approaches this.

Key Targets: Laughton (3yrs x $3.0M), Ristolainen (4yrs x $5.5M)
Potential Return: Norris (7yrs x $7.9M)
Rationale: The Flyers are seriously lacking at C after Couturier, and Norris could help them improve upon their bottom-10 faceoff %. Laughton is the kind of two-way veteran forward the Senators would covet for their middle-6 forwards, and Ristolainen would add size and stability at RHD.

I can see Torts being kicked upstairs and allowing Brad Shaw to take over. I believe Torts may be coaching 2 more years behind the bench at most. IIRC, his contract is for 5 yrs. Torts will be 66 in the summer. I could see Bob Murray retiring in a few years and Torts being named as a Senior Advisor.

I watched this game in shock last night. I couldn't believe that Dallas only had 1 shot on goal last night in the first period. ONE!!! Unfrigginbelievable.

Between this game and the Winnipeg game, I'm starting to think they may have the mojo this year. Now, every team they face will be bringing their A game against the Flyers. This makes for some really fun hockey to watch unlike prior years.

I don't see Brad Shaw as an NHL head coach in any manner.

I could see that -- they definitely look similar with the puck on their sticks. And they're both kinda non-existent defensively.

Phil could really hurt you with his vision and passing tho. Tipp seems to be missing that.

- Tomahawk

I think Tippett’s two highlight goals in the past two games made people forget he actually scores most of his goals from long range off the rush.

You’re definitely not gonna see much playmaking from Tipp, hints the high spot attempts. Tippett also has the ability at times to use his body but I’m not seeing him cause chaos like power forwards we’ve seen of the past in a Flyers uniform.

At first glance ….why would Ottawa do this? But then you look at yet another wasted Ottawa year. The talk now is perhaps they tweak the core. They have also hinted at wanting to add solid Pro’s…..all of a sudden the general premise of this starts to make more sense.
Norris’s name along with Batherson and Chychrun have all come up in the last couple of weeks. Not sure if those two would be enough for Norris but it does make some sense.

Hm.

They’ve done pretty well in his general absence this season, but if they feel they have a serious shot at a run, then maybe they’d wanna upgrade from Mermis. A quick look appeared that their top five prospects are forwards, so nothin really there. They do still have Gogo, so they can always try to run him on fumes.

But yeah, seems worth a call.

Also, some rookie named Daemon Hunt is on their bottom pair. What a name.

If you can show me that Tippett has any semblance of the quality of playmaking that McKinnon has, who is probably the best playmaker in the entire NHL, then maybe I'll change my mind.
