What a game last night. For all we’ve said and heard about Torts, it’s kind of weird to see a team play so relaxed. They just seem to never panic and they all seem like they are enjoying playing the game. Maybe there’s something to this “locker room culture” after all. This team really reminds my of those 80’s teams with young players like Zezel, Tochhet, Craven, Pelle etc. A seemingly nice balance of young players and some vets.
Frosts pass on that first goal got overshadowed by Tippets sick goal but that pass was a thing of beauty as well as his forechecking.
As far as Walker, if Walker wants to stay in Philly on a team friendly 4x3 (he’s making 2.5 now) does GMDB sign him or trade him for a 2nd or 3rd?
If Seeler would be good with 3x2.5 or something similar does GMDB keep him?
I’m now convinced moving RR might be the better play.
Anyway, this is fun again being a Flyers fan.

Because teams now play a sharply different style, especially on D, than they do as the season tightens and especially in the playoffs.
A playoff series win would not mean much, as I have argued earlier.
You make a case for indifference, not joy. All other things being equal, 13 is better than 17. And, it should never have been allowed to get to 13 versus 17 stage.
Also, this is the 2nd or 3rd time you have been insulting.

Watch your fingers bub! 2 points now, is the same in a couple months. Playoffs is obviously different but that irrelevant now. |

How would the Ristolainen trade potentially break even? - MJL
If he either finally develops into the defenseman he was expected to be, or they recoup an equitable amount of assets from what was given up to acquire him through a trade. |

Philadelphia Flyers
Key Targets: Laughton (3yrs x $3.0M), Ristolainen (4yrs x $5.5M)
Potential Return: Norris (7yrs x $7.9M)
Rationale: The Flyers are seriously lacking at C after Couturier, and Norris could help them improve upon their bottom-10 faceoff %. Laughton is the kind of two-way veteran forward the Senators would covet for their middle-6 forwards, and Ristolainen would add size and stability at RHD. - hello it's me 2050
Getting off from Ristolainen would be nice. I gotta think their is salary retention.
I get the eagerness to buy but I want them to stay the course and just sell off a defensemen or two.

Coming back to playoff experience, the reverse is also true. You don't seem to need much playoff experience to excel in them. A stark case is ROR. He had early insignificant play off experience, then went to BUF (drought). Then, late in career, goes to Blues and wins Conn Smythe!
- PT21
The point wasn't that you need playoff experience to excel in them. The point was that playoff experience aids a young players development.

He's what 29 years old now? Been in the league for a decade? He is not going to finally develop into the defenseman he was expected to be. He is now a 3rd pair defenseman that has to play in a very tight conservative defensive team structure just to be serviceable. There are always some sucker GM's but I don't see anyone taking on that contract in full and it's likely the Flyers would have to retain salary just to move him.

I will watch. The nails need to be trimmed.
Also, we might be talking about 2 different things. I wasn't saying that games now are irrelevant to making playoffs. Of course they are relevant.
I am saying that games now are not a very good predictor of how well you do in them. If they similarly dominate a team like Dallas in March, well, different story.

I think anyone with real value or costs too much under our current cap won’t be able to move until off season anyway. Who are we currently paying salaries to who no longer player for the Flyers? |

Hayes is the only one coming to mind. |

I would think this team loses in the first round, things get tighter, it’s harder to score. But at the same time, these young players and remade backend have brought a serious jolt to this team. I don’t think they will be an easy out. |

I actually think they make it to 2nd round, especially if they keep this up and don't end up drawing a top seed. |

That’s why I stated in my original comment that they maybe could break even in that deal, not that it was a certainty. |

There is zero chance that the Flyers break even in that deal. Unless maybe a team hires Chuck Fletcher to be their GM. That deal was a loss the day they made it.

Okay, Hayes and it sounds like DeAngelo too. If this fanbase doesn’t want Risto at full cost, why would anyone else? If he moves, there is no point in talking about it until the summer. |

If we're being honest with ourselves, Ristolainen isn't getting moved. Take you're pick from either Walker, Weeler, or Staal. |

Well on hockeybuzz.com I’m not able to complain to management directly, so I guess I’m stuck with those who complain about Risto daily on here. |

I don’t have an issue with Risto. He’s not hurting anything. |

trade was an overpay but he is playing well, starting to move the puck out of the D zone, his breakouts seem better and he is joining the play. His size and being physical is a plus with the way the game is played but yea, he has to play a simple game. |

In a perfect world he’d add some offense but the offense isn’t going his way right now. |

Given his current role, I agree. I think people, myself included, have a problem with the trade and the subsequent extension Fletcher gave him. |
