Yeah, QH and Petey have only been in the playoffs once, how many chances has the Oilers had? I thought so... One team was rebuilding (or constantly retooling in JB speak) and the other was supposed to be a Cup contender yet like Toronto only made it to the Conference Finals once (Toronto only made it to the second round before getting swept only last year).

Hey I hate the Oilers as much as Lefty hates the Flames, but not every team makes the finals just because they’ve been in the playoffs before. It the hardest championship to win in pro sports.
Canucks should hope for a Vegas/Edmonton first round, letting the 2 beat the crap out of each other. Face a Wildcard team to get their legs under them and get rolling.
Don’t get me wrong, Ive lived in B.C. a long time and if my Flames aren’t playing there’s no other team I’d rather see win than the Canucks. A Canuck championship would make sitting in my tin boat, fishing with a buddy much more enjoyable.
Btw, I can tie 3 different knots, that I like to use.

This is a such silly argument, so every teams best player is a large reason they’re in the playoffs….isn’t that how it’s suppose to work?

Both McBaby and Draisaitl are money in the playoffs, McBaby has 75 points in 49 games and Draisaitl has 77 in 49 games.

It’s mcbaby and dry saddle 😆

They’ve got just as many as Hughes and Pete. You should probably of shared how many points those 2 have in the playoffs.

- K-man25

McDavid isn’t responsible for putting a team together, he’s more than done his part. He just turned 27 a few weeks ago, the same age a bunch of kids won a Cup in LA. Carter, Richards, Brown, Quick, we’re all around that age when they won their first Cup in LA.

I’m no Oiler fan, although I feel like I’m defending them, I’m defending the process, but again, this is a silly argument. Veteran experienced teams usually win the Stanley Cup. Steven Stamkos was 30 before they won, Hedman was 29, Steve Yzerman 31, Dionne never, Modano 28, Brett Hull 34, Hossa was 31, teams win Cups, not individual players.

Wow! First I agree with Lordy, then you. I’m going to crack a Negro Modelo and sit by the pool.

The problem with the Oilers (and the Leafs have the same issue) is that they are too top heavy. McDavid and Draisaitl (Matthews and Marner too) are the best players in the world, but the supporting cast around them isn't good enough and because both teams rightly refuse in trading one of their two best players for the assets it would take to fix it, they'll likely always be the bridesmaids instead of the brides in the form of Cups.

Very good chance that happens, Canucks would have to collapse to not get 1st in the pacific and I don’t see that happening with that coaching staff and leadership group.

But none of that is the fault of the players, management builds teams. I’m just saying you can’t say McDavid is a dud in the playoffs, he’s not, he just hasn’t had much help until the past couple years. They keep getting better and more experienced, I think they’re just a goaltender and a coach away from going deep again. They just changed the coach who’s making them check, finally, they are close.

Once the Canucks have some playoff success, they’ll have to hand out better contracts to the players that got them there. It’s the way the salary cap NHL is heading. Vancouver is fortunate to have Hughes and Petey at the price they’re at. Last season most were pissed that Miller was over 8 and Boeser got 6+
If the Oilers lose out again ,I wouldn’t be suprised if Draisaitl tells Holland he’s not signing an extension. Canadian teams are going to find it hard to keep their stars. Who the hell would want to live in Edmonton when you could go to Florida or California instead.

The problem is we've seen this show before, a new coach comes in, gives the team a bump and they do well in the regular season but once the playoffs start they easily get frustrated if teams are laying in the lumber and body on Drai and McDavid and they fall to pieces. You are 100000% right that it's not on the players for the team that's around them, they ARE however at fault for always beating themselves and letting their emotions get the better of them. They should have at least made one Cup Final appearance by this point with all the talent they have/had on their roster yet no coach (and they've had almost a dozen at this point) has been able to get them to ride out the highs and lows in the playoffs.

Man I do miss going to junior hockey. Enjoy the game, go Cougars!
We have a baseball team here in Sayulita, their manager is from Castlegar. Unfortunately the season is over, can’t beat watching sports live.

Really? Is your first sentence not describing most teams that get a new coach? If you didn’t put in the 2 names you could be describing the Canuck. No?

Soucy-Myers D 213.7
Zadorov-Myers D 192

It's pretty close.

- manvanfan

A lot of that was while Soucy was hurt. Zadorov has played 321 minutes as a Canuck. Soucy 301 minutes. The moment Soucy got healthy Zadorov was shunted to 3rd pairing. He also sat a game.

But again, most of those teams aren't considered contenders and expected to win in the playoffs. Totally different circumstances, Vancouver was (at best) considered a bubble team while Edmonton were considered perennial Cup favorites, you can't even compare the two teams.

Well that right there is the rub against them, they are individual players. And if your theory holds true then the Canucks are cup bound, they play as a team without the constant crying from McDiva, and the favorable treatment from the refs that Mcwienerhead gets.

Yup.
As soon as he made that sweet pass to the Coyote player, I knew he was done as a Canuck.

I had just seen that pass a minute ago, it was a beaut. With JR saying maybe for another city got me thinking "He's done now".

A hot name now is Adam Henrique.
