The team, as a whole, is not really doing better. Injuries are a part of the reason for that, no doubt. However, some individuals are progressing in their development.

A few are not meeting expectation.

They are where I expected them to be.

They have like 2-4 points more than last season…

they were far from playing .500 last season and they are now this season, still, at the mid season mark.

The individuals are part of the team that has been doing better as a whole.

but I get that you have to protect your narrative of the team not making progress so you do have to ignore the facts that goes against your said narrative

And a lot of those points were somewhat lucky, given the large amounts of OT they have played... an OT loss or two and they are back where they were. You really cannot judge progression on this team via points in the standings, it has to be on the development of the players and their underlying metrics (5v5 play, PP, PK, turnovers, etc...).

A few have taken big steps forward (ie: Slaf, Struble, etc..), a few have not found their next level yet (ie: CC, Primeau, etc..), and a few have regressed (ie: Baron, etc..)

Of course, we were looking at Dach and Newhook to be two of the biggest improvements on the team this season, but... poop happens. Lack of depth has also forced people into not ideal roles or allowed other teams to focus on a few players (ie: Suzuki line), making the Habs easy targets some night (especially on the road).

Just because the "team" is not making progress in the standings, does not mean there is zero progress going on.

That is not some form of narrative, it is the reality of the situation.

I just pointed out that they made progress in the standings and you decided to ignore that totally

They ended up playing around .415 last season. To give you an idea, Ottawa is playing around .400 this season.

Ottawa of this seson pretty much equals the Habs of last season.

I know its not much, but Mtl is having a much better season than Ottawa, where the Habs were last season. So thats progress. So far anyway

agreed, they did not lose 8 in arrow like they did last year. 3 times if I remember well.
of course there is some kind of progress, it would be catastrophic otherwise. lol

Ottawa is having a set back year after years of rebuild

this is year 2 of mtl rebuild

how would you feel being a Sens fan?

you should know more than most in here how long a full rebuild can take

look at Chicago with the wise man in their line up

They suck out of the balls of the Lord

A few extra points in the standings is not that great an indicator of being a better team... their record is not significantly better.

As I pointed out elsewhere, there have been some wins (ie: in player development), some bad luck (again) with injuries, and a lack of overall improvement on the ice when it comes to make the same mistakes over and over with turnover, poor PP and poor PK (partially players, partially coaching).

That said, 5 on 5, they have shown improvement, especially at home when they have the last change.

Negatively?

I point out where they are not improving or regressing, and some of the resons for those challenges (not always under their control, like injuries).

But I also give credit where there is improvements, too.

Bottom line, the Habs are where we expected them to be at the start of the season. And that is a good thing.

well for instance you do consider that all those OT points are attributable to luck.

I did not say they were significantly better or that much better, but they have been better

You are obsess about all of the OTS and you call it luck when they win.

You could say as well that they stay in more games this season than last, and they have have clutch as well well to win some of those games. No sequences of 8-9 losts either this season.

I gave up watching them last season around december or january.

The games are better this year, most of the time they can actually win them and they often do, even vs top teams like Colorado. Not an automatic L this season.

So thats progress, yes. Never said they were perfect, but perfect does not exist, even not you my internet friend.

I expect the rebuild to be a 5-6- 7 years thing. Look at the Devils and how long it took them to be that much better. About the time frame I gave you if not more.
