Barzal sounded thrilled and he played well for Lane this year. - ses111
Yeah that’s a bit perplexing. Best year he’s had since his rookie season point wise. |

Have to think more time with Bo and being healthy this year and more dedication to making changes to his game. I like that Patrick wants to team to play smart in terms of turnovers and not afraid at the same time. Interesting Patrick mentioned Pelech and the defense trusting more. Team has to play solid defense and not be afraid to take chances to score goals at the same time. Very difficult trying to win every game 2-1. |

Now that Lane is gone, looking back on his tenure, I have to say I'm shocked at the coach he turned out to be. This guy was Barry's right hand man for over 10 years and held in very high regard around the league as a top tier candidate. I think a large reason why Lou let Barry go was that when it seemed apparent Barry wasn't going to sign an extension, he let him go to avoid losing Lane.
Yet the result became a disorganized mess on the ice, with an obvious disconnect between the coach and the players. The end product was just so short of the expectation. A total disaster. |

The complete lack of defense is insane to me after working on the bench for so long with trotz. I can’t imagine what we saw was the system he was trying to implement and it was just the players not buying into it. Problem is it was a 42 game stretch and defensively they were an absolute tire fire. |

It was very surprising Lane did not turn out better. Maybe it was the pressure of replacing Barry and NY? I was thinking Patrick showed more passion and coaching in 5 minutes than NY Jets Coach Saleh in 3 years. NY is a different animal and not everyone can handle it. |

Happy they took this game because their neutral zone play was awful at times and they weren’t exactly setting the world afire in their own end either. Good to start with a win and give Roy some time to get these guys playing the way he wants. Isn’t going to happen over night but good to start on the right foot. |

It seems odd that after 12 years under Barry his system would differ so much. Perhaps he was trying something that was too radical of a change from his own system experience.
More troubling to me was the complete breakdown of on-ice fundamentals. Things like dmen communicating switching off, or proper coverage, sound breakouts etc. A lot of the Isles mistakes were things that an NHL coach shouldn't even have to talk about at that level.
We're going to learn a lot about certain players over the next several months. |

Going to be a process. Dallas is really good so it's not a surprise it was a struggle. I feel for Bolduc. I think he has talent, but just not the experience. I'm sure he misses a Vet like Robert as well. No excuse with someone like Mayfield. Aho, I think is too small and not a long-range answer. Bolduc if handled right has a chance. Still question marks among the roster that makes this is challenge.

I wonder the frustration of losing to the Canes again in last year's playoffs and not being able to score caused Lane to make too many changes. I understand the need to create more offense with the Islanders, but the defense needed to remain solid.

Gotcha didn’t see what he said. Kind of funny none the less due to him being on track for his best season point wise since we drafted him but I get it. Team was a mess. |

Offense always comes from good defense, breakouts, regroups and smart plays |

Forget about solid if it were even mediocre while maintaining their offensive output they would’ve been in second place in the division. Can’t blame injuries because they were playing worse when they had a healthy lineup. They played well when both Pulock and pelech were out and for a stretch when mayfield went down. They got Reilly and Bortuzzo then went on a run then went to crap when Pelech came back. 😂
Let’s see what Roy can do with this lineup. |

I think he's going to continue to thrive on offense and as he said and keaner stated he wants to be like dyatsuk on d. Said Roy's system is music to his Ears |

Even under Barry, the offense was a struggle outside the two playoff runs. I think having a Bo type player back then maybe gets the Islanders over the top. It really takes a good system and the players. For the Islanders to get to where they want to go, they cannot be known for just being a very good defensive team. They need to be equally good defensively and offensively and they have to be able to score enough goals against very good defenses. |

It's true the defense was struggling even when healthy. Bolduc mentioned Bortuzzo talking to him really helped and Reilly being able to move the puck has helped. The 2nd line has really fell off. Pierre is not a top 6 player and the 4th line with no Casey and Martin playing is an issue. The answer cannot be we just need Barry's system, and the Cup is ours. True Cup contenders can handle things if the game opens up or if the game is a defesive battle. |

That's why he wears 13 I guess. To be fair he is or was leading the league in takeaways. Is he ever going to win a selke? No, but he is starting to figure out how to play on both sides of the puck and that's a huge step up in his game. |

Yeah he just has to find a way to slim down trying to force passes/plays at times. Kid has an improved game for sure this season. Great thing is he’s trying to improve it… |

Like I said they have to find a balance with Roy. They do that and manage to stay healthy they can push for the playoffs. My opinion of the lineup hasn’t changed but who knows maybe Roy can get something more out of them. 🤞 |

One game at a time and hopefully the team plays the right way. Great sign Patrick did not keep going with the 4th line.
