word is Monahan asked to be traded when he signed last summer. he has the final say. not you not me and not Hughes. I just dont see why a pending UFA would want to sign here when we still have a few rough years to go through.
- fidopro

Not true.

Hughes does not have to trade him.

He likely will, but there is nothing stopping him from keeping Monahan on the roster til the end of the year.

Not saying they will do that, was just replying that Monahan does not control his own fate.

sure but it would be in the habs' interest to either be a trade or a signing.

he does in the sense that Hughes may want to offer him a contract, Monahan will decide if he wants to stay or not. and if he says no, Hughes will do the only logical thing which is to trade him. especially since he did ask to be traded at the tdl, so they say.
didn't think I had to explain it in detail.

You know, never been to a peeler joint, can't say I'd want to. It's like paying to go to The Mandarin to watch people eat. The internet can show you anything you want to see... And more.

Gallagher should get 5 games for that dumb (frank)ing hit, don't care if it's his first suspension, it was cheap, targeted the head, raised his elbow, no excuse.

he deserves a suspension, it was an ugly hit, but to assume the intent is pointless, poop happens so fast it isn't necessarily what he wanted to do. whatever.

I'm still about the penalty that almost cost us the game.

Oh and just to swoop in on the Monahan debate. You have to trade him.

He makes the team better right now, but if you sign him for 5 years, odds are he'll be injured for a big chunk of it and will get slower as time passes.

Get the most you can for him and stick to the rebuild plan.

It's awesome that he is playing well, Habs will just get a better return. Time to move him (ASAP), if they can sign him at a reasonable price and term this summer, great, if not, best of luck.

Can they get a first (20-32th) and a prospect for him? Or just a good prospect?

If he's open to a 2-3 year deal, it could make sense.

I doubt it's what Monahan wants at this point of his career his first good, healthy season in a while.

yup, but my point is I'm not sure if other teams will be willing to sign him for 5+ years either.

anyway I'm confident Hughes will manage to get a nice deal if he does trade him, but if he stays on a decent contract I definitely won't be disappointed.

A first or a good prospect and maybe a later pick is what I expect at this point.

This team already has enough aging veterans to carry around. No need to add another contract they will regret.

Just move him and get the best return.

Oh if he ends up signing a 2-3 year deal at a reasonable price, I won't be mad.

We got a good player and a first for nothing so far, this is already a win for the Habs.
