This team already has enough aging veterans to carry around. No need to add another contract they will regret.

Just move him and get the best return.

Will you be able to handle the fact we're gonna suck more in the short term?

If he's open to a 2-3 year deal, it could make sense.

I doubt it's what Monahan wants at this point of his career his first good, healthy season in a while.

- Scabeh

he should want to wait until july first and try to get as much years on his next contract as he can

he is healthy this season so I think he knows he needs to do this season (july 1st)

as long as their key players can't stay healthy, I fully agree.

situation of the past 2yrs lead to a top 5-7 pick
Everyone healthy will lead to a 7-12th pick

yeah...not improving quickly, they lack so much depth up front that it will take a few years to draft, develop and hope all those picks reach potential

he is 29yrs old, it's his last chance to get terms, his agent would be (frank)ing dumb to accept a 2-3yrs contract with his injury history.

There's always a team that makes stupid moves because they are desperate for a short term upgrade.

Hell, Lou Lamoriello signed Horvat and his first comment was : "Too much money and too long". He knew it was a bad deal and still did it.

really? it's nice to have some brutal honesty I guess...

I get what you're saying, every GM has to overpay at one point or another, they aren't always gonna get discount deals, but in Monahan's case if he wants to go to a contender and get a chance at a cup I doubt it would be on a lengthy contract. but anything is possible lol

there are more than 10 teams looking for an upgrade at center on the 2nd or 3rd line, Monahan can also play wing, he will get multiple offers if he stays healthy, even more if he can have decent playoffs with his new team

I'm not so convinced about the number of years he'll be getting, but we'll see.

fully agree it was ugly, he will get 3-5 games IMO, first offense. I won't complain if he gets more than 5 games, it was a really bad hit

I think Robidas Island is a better way to get out of that contract, but you do you.

Sounds like Owen Tippett's new extension with #Flyers is 8 years x $6.2 million = $49.6 million. #LetsGoFlyers

A couple of more positive notes on last night's game:

As much as we bemoan Slaf for his tendency to pass rather than shoot, can we give him a bit of credit for that sweet goal last night? He barely had the puck on his stick, and he had the hockey IQ to see Slick Nick in the front, and hit a perfect pass for the easy tip in.

And goddamn, Cole with the moves on that goal. He's really the best offensive player we've seen since Kovalev.
