Well it will be less than 5 because it's a phone hearing and not in-person.
Since there is no league precedent to give a first time offender a 10 game suspension for an elbow to the face, I'm going to go with this: Had it been a Leaf who delivered this hit, you wouldn't be grandstanding for 10 games. If you can't view it objectively, then you aren't commenting on it objectively.
But you are always free to disagree. - Monkeypunk
No need to assume to try and prove your point.
If a leaf made that hit they would deserve 10 games.
If a player did that to a Leaf they would deserve 10 games.
It was a disgusting play. Completely unavoidable too.
The only gripe I have with Leafs suspensions is when most of the time when comparing the same play Leafs players tend to get more. |

what wil the Jays do?
Soler, meh..last resort imo
JD Martinez, I guess preferred
Turner, nah
maybe Votto, but not the hitter he once was
Sign Chapman?
Sign Bellinger?
Trade?
none of the above? - senstroll
Chapman and one more big bat. If you we're gonna bust the bank for Ohtani, why not spend 2/3 of that to have the same results (although, you'll never get the hype of Ohtani).

Martinez has jut been more consistent, also 30 hr potential (had 34 in 113 games).
I doubt Soler would play any OF on the Jays...he sucks OF..maybe in blowouts I guess.
Chapman probably gives you 1-2 war more at 3b than whatever mishmash they would currently have to use - senstroll
Soler @ 3 x 15m> Chapman @ 4 x 25m
Chapmans inability to hit the breaking ball away is a dealbreaker for me
Never seen someone plummet so hard after leading the AL stats early in the year

Who has received 10 games for that type of hit in the past?
We probably agree on the fringe of this conversation which is simply that the NHL is (a) inconsistent and (b) too lenient in its punishment. If the NHL were to go back to the NHLPA and say that the DoPS is no longer going to be as lenient and these are the new baselines for certain actions (meaning that using precedent is out the window) and then consistently stick by those standards I would 100% agree with this punishment.
As it stands today with the NHL as it is, no one gets punished as heavily or worse than they should - except maybe Jason Spezza. Look at the crap happening around Cousins in Florida. He has had two hits that should have been both penalized and suspended that have resulted in nothing but retaliation - and both of those retaliations should have resulted in larger suspensions than they were, and only one was a suspension at all.
I'm not being difficult here when I say that there's a massive difference between deserving 10 games and receiving 10 games. Deserve is completely a subjective term without proper precedent with which to base it on.
Edited to note your edited comment at the end: I think we all agree. The DoPS has extreme biases towards certain teams and certain players and until they can remove those biases and create a more objective adjudication process, it will continue to be a joke. Keeping it under Colin Campbell (who has demonstrated clearly that he has no compunction with trying to fire a ref for giving his son a tripping penalty - or when he was running the DoPS personally with using it to fulfill personal vendettas) is a goddamned joke. Hiring George Parros who comes in with his own prejudices isn't going to help. |

id be fine if they wanted to go back to Chapman.but also add another DH option.
I wish Cleveland would just trade the Jays Jose Ramirez, that would solve both problems

We need a bat or two. Could soler or martinez fill one of those? Sure. But soler strikes out alot i believe.
Bellinger sure, but not for crazy money.
If no to chapman, then who plays 3rd? Gonna have to be a trade.
Im pretty meh with the jays right, similar to my meh'ness about this leafs reg season.
So the jays better do something, as the yankees will be better, and orioles/tampa will be good as well. |

They should go get Arenado from St. Louis. He looks like he's about to fall off the cliff. It would fit with their strategy of being stupid.

I think the Jays are projecting as second in the ALE. on paper they are still very good.
6/7th in the league.
Orioles pitching is not great.
3b is a mess.
this is missing Keirmier, but its what they currently look like

Oh 1000%. Signing Ohtani would have been just as much about what he bring off the field, rather than on.

I can agree on a lot of this.
I do think that eventually they have to change this with Perros in or out.
Unrelated note, looks like McCmann is going through waivers.
Reaves got his wish making the Leafs take him off IR.
Sucks they are going to lose a decent 13th forward for playoffs in Bobby. |

So Gallagher shouldn't get a lengthy suspension because he is a "good guy" and because of that (his character) people assume he probably had no intent to cause injury?
That's a pretty deep pile of BS to me but whatever.
The guy who gets drunk and drives and kills someone probably didn't mean to kill anyone either but guess what - he gets charged with a criminal offense anyway as a result, because he killed someone while driving drunk.
The guy who put up his elbow and smashed a guy in the face did that on his own, what his intent was or was not is irrelevant as it relates to this stuff (or it should be) as it's impossible to prove 100% what someone's intent was - it's in their mind.
The action(s) are what matter.
End of the day he will likely get less than he should because DOPS is a joke.
Guess we will see - at this point I'll predict 3 games max because Parros is a tool bag and probably has Hab's PJ's from when he played there. |

If this ever went to trial, a lot would revolve on whether she was too drunk to give consent to having sex. You be “I’m too drunk to drive” and give consent but you can too considered too drunk to have the capacity to give consent.
So your right, context will matter in determining if she gave consent. |
