well sure, most people had one pre 2000
but i didnt think 17yo kids are walking around with those in 2002...i guess it possible. but that would make me question the whole thing even more. - senstroll
Remember it was at the World Junior Championships.
Fans would have been walking around with them.
Players would have been walking around with them.
Filming hours and hours of stuff that they would never, ever watch ever again. |

Of the 2002 roster there were 18 kids who had already been drafted and 4 who had not (Fleury was one of the nots). The NHL ELC maximum salary was set to 50% of the league minimum at that time, which made it $87,500USD.
The Nokia 7650 or the Sanyo SCP-5300 - both camera phones available in 2002 - cost about $400. That's money these kids would have possibly had available to them. Not to mention hockey is typically a rich person's sport. Maybe a little so in 2002, but the families with the resources would typically fare better at producing NHL calibre players since they could afford better equipment, training and access to facilities.
That said the only thing I know is that someone said they saw the video. I don't even know if that someone was law enforcement or just some random whackjob.
Edit: It is hard to find old salary data. An example I can find is that Kyle Wellwood wasn't signed at the time of the WJC; he signed in May of 2003 - but that contract carried an AAV of $484 but was worth $825k / year, so there were about $400k in bonuses attached and he was a 5th round pick. |

In 2001, I bought a Kodak 1MP digital camera that was small, shot crappy video, and only cost about $100. It was good enough to run an eBay business then. - GalacticStone
digital camera with video makes sense. think i got my first one around 2002-03, which I also used for ebay as well..but it was still pretty crappy vids

Columbus ready to hear offers for their "big names" like Laine, Provorov, Jenner and Elvis.
Time to rebuild the rebuild in Columbus! - Scabeh
If we trade for Laine, does a vortex open up and unleash Spatso on Leafs Nation forever? |

Small, handheld cameras (with tiny tapes) were all the rage. We called them "camcorders."
I had one.
- Atomic Wedgie
That reminds me ...we have a box in the storage room with a couple of those.
I better get down there and erase the tapes! God knows what's on there! |

I'm sure this video was watched so many times the tape is damn near damaged beyond repair.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but at this point the video tape is still just a rumour, no?
You'd know better than me, but with no victim testimony and no actual video, I can't see charges being laid. - Atomic Wedgie
I haven't been paying too much attention to the 03' facts but I think the evidence is that somebody says they saw the video and could identify the person(s) on the video ..or filming or something like that.
If so ....ya, hearsay evidence. |

To be clear, I wasn't referring to the alleged video of a rape.
I was speaking to the fact that everyone of that era recorded hours of video, burned it on a CD and never, ever watched it again. |

That's why the porn was so poop back then. I'd rather watch the WWF Diva fights. Way better quality than our pre-Alien's gave us HD after 2008 or whatever tech. |

Speaking of non-sense NHL stuff. Is anybody else weirded out that Sam Reinhart has a chance to break the single PPG in a season record? |

I think investigators would be trying to get the video and/or people identified on the video and in the room who weren’t participating. |

In the early 90's live porn consisted of squinting at a black and white fuzzy screen trying to watch the Playboy channel that your parents didn't subscribe to.
