I’m hoping for just a team of good hardworking players that play the game right and dump and chase their way to a cup. Oh and block a ridiculous amount of shots. - Grinder47
So you want to be the 2006 Hurricanes? |

I dont think he'd want that attention/focus that he would get in Canada. I think Pittsburgh was the perfect market for him because it isnt a huge market with a lot of media attention, but its a market that is a hockey market and cares about the game.
I could be dead wrong, i dont know the guy. but i think your guess that if he left, it'd be to play with MacKinnon, is probably dead on. - SuperHenderson13
Yeah, maybe. I think if he was open to going elsewhere, which we really have no idea about, and there was a top contending Canadian team wanting to acquire him, and had the pieces to do so, I think it could happen.
His dad was drafted by the Canadiens and that was his favourite team his whole childhood. I could see it if they were serious contenders....but I dont see that happening for a while, yet, maybe never at all haha...or at least not while he's still in the league.

Shot blocks kinda get me off...love when a player drops to the ice to do so. However, if your team has to block a lot of shots it generally means they're not playing very well...at 5 on 5, anyway. PK blocks are a different story. |

The 2006 Hurricanes with the addition of Jeff Carter, Chris Pronger, and Matt Cooke lol. That would be Grinders ideal team.

I was about to say you forgot Craig Adams....then remembered he was part of that 2006 Canes team already hahah
Also, Chris Pronger was a f'n beast, in more ways than one, that I would have loved on the Pens. |

I wonder if the pens could get Sean monaham. I wouldn’t really call him a 2C but he’s having a decent season and then we could move Geno to wing easing his burden. Also keeps one of geno’s wingers on the 3rd line. (When healthy). I think something along those lines would be best case scenario.
This is predicated on the idea dubas is all in and not selling of course. |

I was going to say if Guentzel is dead set on cashing out of Pittsburgh trying to get a 20 goal 2c and move Malkin up to play with Sid full time would be sick. |

Monahan was one of the guys I was hoping we would bring in during the offseason, he definitely can still play. BUT, I don't think putting him and Malkin together is a good mix.
I think if you get him you run a strong center group with Crosby-Malkin-Monahan-Eller. I'd feel really good about that center group. |

Sid and Jake have great chemistry and it's tough to breakup our only consistent scoring duo.
Is anyone else interested in seeing Jake and Rust with Geno and seeing how Rak and Smith, once he's back mesh with Sid?
It'd help Geno out and we'd really get to see what Jake can do in Smith's role and vice versa.
Sully never breaks them up but I think it'd be an interesting test. |

Geno has 5 points in his last 5 games all of which ES. Sid has 6 in last 5 games all of which ES, as well. The combo of DOC-Geno-White in those 5 games, at 5 on 5, have a 55.81xGF%, 50.00 HDSC% and 53.85CF%. Its a pretty small sample so far, no doubt, but I think I'd leave them together and see if they can build on a pretty decent showing so far....I like Rak and what he can bring in the bottom 6. Hell, if Geno's line stays good, Smith in the bottom 6 would be a great addition there, as well. |

Since I have a little 10 day break here from the scouting work, from the names I’ve heard definitely available and what I think would help the pens have a chance in the playoffs would be
(Depending on if Guentzel says he isn’t re signing) give or take a pick/prospect
1) Guentzel 6m and Graves 4.5m for
Kuzmenko 5.5m, Hoglander 1.1m and Soucy 3.25m
2) Boone Jenner 3.75m and Provorov 4.7m for R.Smith 5m, Soucy 3.25m, 1st, Pickering

Interesting stuff.....trying to figure out who you meant instead of Soucy comnig from the Pens in the 2nd trade there...or if you just mistakenly put him there. The only Pen with a cap hit right around that 3.25 is Carter haha.
I would love Boone Jenner on the Pens...do the Jackets really want to trade their captain, though?
EDIT: its possible you meant that both these treades go down (if they are trading Jake) and thats where Soucy from the Pens comes from.
So if that is the case:
Out: Jake, Graves, Smith, B prospect, 1st and Pickering
In: Kuzmenko, Hoglander, Boone Jenner and Provorov
I'm struggling with this one hahaha.....the Pens lose the best player, a player I dont want to lose at all, but might be a deeper team overall if so. |

Interesting. I don't think White should ever play above 3rd line and never above Rak regardless of handedness.
That line was broken up for the Eller Geno Rak line last game wasn't it? Geno seemed energized after that shakeup but he may have just been angry for the move to wing.
I really think trying Sid with Rak and Smith would net results but like Boyd said, Sully won't entertain that. |

I'm down for trying it as well. Just saying Geno hasn't been as bad lately as some are saying.

Soucy would be in the 2nd trade if the 1st trade happened just for cap hits. Still could make 1 or the other trade happen because the cap is the easiest thing to work around. Could be Jenner and Pro for Smith, Graves, +.
Jenner is definitely on the block not sure if its his choice or not but has been talked about with multiple teams. Merzlikins, Roslovic, Jenner, Boqvist, Laine (depending on his situation) and Provorov all are actively being shopped. |

Ya Jake for Kuz and Hog would be a bit of a risk but could also pay off big and make them deeper. Kuzmenko with Sid could still be VERY good as well for next season.
Graves for Provorov I think is a pretty big win now and in the future to shed Graves. (nucks were a team interested in Graves in the offseason)
Jenner for Smith is more of something I think the pens need. Not sure any team wouldnt want Boone on there team especially in the playoffs. Could have Boone in the middle with Malkin or 3C.
