Will never forget getting back from a D.R. destination wedding and reading this on the front page of a good old fashioned newspaper in Pearson.

Hungover the Moon about it at the time!

I've heard it said that Tre isn't going to do much at the TDL, I certainly hope that's not the case. This team has issues, but they're capable of winning against top teams. A few decent pieces push lesser players down in the lineup and everyone improves.

i think we're back in a position where we'd have to ship out roster players who have salary, which means subtracting good pieces to add good pieces

Lots can happen over the next month but I'm expecting he'll add a d'man and bottom six PK'er type - maybe specifically a 3C.

I just remember being happy to get rid of Mayers, who had decided he was too good to play for the Leafs.

Yup. So if he's bringing 1 in then it's 3, or 4, or 5 out to make roster room.

And each demotion/subtraction equates to about $1M so he's got lots of space to work with.

Every year you make the playoffs with Matthews and Co is an "all in year".
- Aaron_85

Its not all and not the way to sustain success.
Youve got matthews for 5 more years minimum
Its ok to not waste picks and prospects every year.
Maybe if this team had actually accomplished something is the past 5 years in the playoffs you do.
But they haven't.
Dont waste high end picks/prospects this year.

its not a waste, get players with term and not rentals.

i dont care about the picks right now..they take years to matter.
Also, if you are on the downside of the AM/MM/WN years, you can start to off load stuff and get picks.

go for it now...all day everyday

Who cares about sustained success when the leafs haven't been to the cup in forever or won it? Get 1 and worry about the following year the next year.

How upset would you be if this team made it to the 3rd round and just an extra piece or two at the deadline from going "all in" would have got them to the cup? You can't predict how the playoffs will go. Noone predicted Panthers to get to the finals, let alone beat boston. When you have a top notch core of players you can't waste away their years waiting for the perfect storm. It doesn't happen in sports.

Know how Tampa did it? They went and made like 3 trades for Coleman, Goodrow and whoever else and it just worked out for them. Noone said "well..they are now a dynasty..cant be beat for the next couple years."

Further, the team is healthy right now. Why waste it? Why gamble on one or more key injuries next year and then it's "now we gotta wait again..."

Well, its been a waste so far as the team hasnt been able to keep most, except gio and McCabe

Weve bee through this before during the pat quinn and draft schmaft years. We still need a pipeline of some internal talent.
Tre will make a move or two, but i believe they will be small...or for someone with term is fine.
But not every year is an all in year.

I understand what youre saying.
But the beauty is there's no way to prove if an extra move would have propelled the team further.
If the players coming back have term, sure go for it.
Dont waste anything on rentals is my opinion.

We also did the tampa esk trade last year. It got us two extra wins

Comfort food night in the Galactic house tonight.

Homemade vegetable beef soup made with roast meat.

It's going to be good tonight, but it will be better tomorrow.

Peak Conn Smythe Vasilevskiy was a bigger factor than the trades.

A lot of things have to come together. Arguably, the Lightning's path wasn't the hardest in the terms of opponents. Dallas in one final and Montreal in the other.

Having Hedman on the back end and Vasi between the pipes was the deciding factor. Everyone else was just along for the ride.

Beauty of it is there's no telling what the future holds so can't sit around just waiting. Injuries, bad performance, lots of things can happen next year, why wait? Rentals are fine.
