He probably just doesn’t plan on resigning.

I think at minimum, he wants to go to free agency like Malkin did and hear what's out there. If it was a question about money or term, you'd hear both sides saying all the right things like "he wants to be here".

To me, if i was him, I'd sign a 6-8 year deal, play for another 2-3 years here, and then get to pick my team to remain competing with as pittsburgh starts its rebuild.

I don't think Malkin wanted to go to FA, Hextall just wasn't going to sign him.

Playing every other day for a month might show they're not worth a tweak or two.
- madmike71

Could easily have an injury making it not worth it by that time too. But I'm fine with this approach.

Monahan for a 1st, so maybe the market will be right for a better return than I expected.

Horwat doesn't want to be labeled a leaker.

Kypreos has no connections to the Penguins, or Guentzel's agent Ben Hankinson. I don't think he has many friends playing. The only way he got this is from a beat writer or Dubas, himself.

I'm going with the beat writer who jumped on the story. He has been writing a number of stories on the Penguins trade front recently. This would give him credibility.

Who is this guy and why should we believe he has strong enough sources to be breaking stories that guys who have been around the team for much longer haven't? Does the hockey news even have people on the beat or just writing blogs? Legitimately curious.

He didn't really break anything lol even in his article he credited Kypreos with the report.

Gutz will make bank in FA. He can go somewhere and compete.

Crosby only has a yr left and Malkin is cooked. He should move on.

Seems like Eller could even be worth something. I just can’t see Dubas jumping into a rebuild right after getting Karlsson. I think the 2025 deadline will be the defining moment on the direction of this team

If Guentzel doesn’t plan on resigning then you have to trade him considering this team can’t make any significant moves to get better. They could make some minor moves at free agency. Arvidsson may be cheap due to his injury. Teravainen might be cheaper due to a mediocre year. Hell, maybe Marchessault wants to play with Reilly and signs for a few years.

But if this team is in the same exact spot next year, it’s time to sell. Pettersson, Rakell, and Reilly could have good value at the deadline next year. Then in the offseason you can work a deal for Karlsson to get whatever you can.

I wouldn’t want locked into a 8 year deal in Pittsburgh if I were him. I’d go for high $ at like 3 years if his intentions are to keep playing with Sid.

Hextall actually did his best work on the Malkin deal. Kept the team from overpaying by too awful much. Instead of just handing him some heartfelt contract.

Horwat has been with the Penguins media pool for five years. Long enough to know his way around the organization.

I was asked where I got the information, I responded with the article. I added that I thought the most likely person to feed this information to Kypreos was the author.

In the article Kypreos is quoted, “It’s my understanding that there may have been something offered to him in the ballpark of $50 million. And as of now he’s not signed. Let’s just put it that way.” That doesn't sound like someone who got his information from Dubas or Guentzel.

Where did he get this information? I say he got it from the guy who just wrote two articles on trading Guentzel the day before (one was from a colleague). Could this all be coincidence, I don't think so.

So are we going to trade all our bad players for good players or what Dubas?

Not even sure who our bad players are though, other than Graves, but even he's looked better to me the past several games ... but still, Dubas, get it done.
