I’ve taken to calling him Henry Bruschetta.
He is an American kid.. If that were the case, the Flames have at least a more power in the situation given that he went the CHL route. - Trevor_Neufeld_
Not really. They only have his rights for two years. Doesn't happen that often, but Anderson and Stoll did it to the Flames. As far as I know, since Brzustewicz is older and can't re-enter ter the draft as a 20-year old, he'd only have to wait it out one more season to be a UFA.
It's already a bit of a red flag since junior players almost always want to start getting paid and the years ticking down ASAP. |

I love this deal. Kuzmenko was a throw-in on top of the 2 picks to make salary work, and 2 solid prospects (this Jarmo kid could become a shutdown defender in 2-3 years if he keeps developing). I hope we can deal Kuzmenko next year for a 2nd rounder. Also, Hunter is already playing in Canada, why wouldn't he want to continue playing in Canada? He looks to be an excellent prospect. Lindholm wasn't gonna resign with us, and I'm glad. He's not even worth 7 mil per year as it is, and is declining. Great move by Conroy. I hope we move Tanev for a solid prospect and/or pick, even though I like Tanev, but just no point keeping him for 2 more years, even to mentor? Resign Hanifin if he wants to though, or move him by the end of Feb. I"m ok with a deal of Kadri to Colorado for RyJo (for salary) and Bowen Byram and/or Callum Ritchie, and a draft pick if it's Callum Ritchie. Will be interesting.
GFG! - quinneroma
Byram would be a good get if he can stay healthy. Philly approached the Avs about Byram before they settled on Drysdale in the Cutter trade.

So, assuming this is how the team will coming out of the allstar break, who plays center?

Sharangovich has played centre before. I can see them giving him a shot with Huberdeau and Kuzmenko. |

That sounds like a great way to showcase Markstrom´s abilities. I don't mean that in a negative way; it would be fun to have a line that was all offense.

Think it will depend on what comes back in the Tanev and Hanifin trades. Markstrom could net us a Younger nhl center to fill in the gaps. Mercer and a pick from the Devils would be nice.
Hanifin should be a decision right after the break, sign or move him out. Maybe they’ll leave him in Boston. |

Happy to see Conny is staying true to his word and moving out our UFA's.
I'm looking forward to watching this re build with young hungry players playing hard.
Cant wait for the new arena too!
This from LeBrun in the Athletic this morning:
If the Devils think they have any chance of still making the playoffs (I think they do), they’ve got the cap room with Dougie Hamilton and his $9 million cap hit on long-term injured reserve. Do they take a swing at a Markstrom-Tanev package?
The goalie situation is pressing in New Jersey. Odds are, the Devils make a goalie trade ahead of any D trade, from what I can gather. Sources around the league say they do indeed keep calling around on goalies. And I don’t think they’re looking at rentals, either. That’s why Markstrom could be among those on their radar. |

So will Hanifin. I have zero expectation Hanifin decides to stay & sign here.
So not being unrealistic, Flames potentially could have 4 1st round picks & that could go up if Flames deal Markstrom either at TDL or at the draft (no urgency from a Flames point of view). Right now focus & hype is on playoff teams trying to load up for a playoff run. The draft is way down the road. Then come draft time, all the panels & insiders hype up the draft & every kid that is drafted in that 1st round is hyped up to be a blue chipper. Flames have 4 of those suckers. Conroy should be looking for some good established 23-24 old players finishing off ELC's & looking for raises with cap strapped teams. Those 1st rounders will be hot currency & thats how Conroy will be able to expedite the retool/rebuild...whatever.
Looking at our cap, we will have about 25 million & really no real large contracts that have to be done. I think this is a real incredible opportunity for Conroy & Iggy to build their own team. Hopefully our pick this year will be a top 10. |

100% and ownership has likely bought in this time.
I see no reason why Hani wouldnt bring back equal value to what Lindy did but I hope he resigns.

If we have a top 10, do they take a winger in Iginla? Kid looks like the real deal but we’re in desperate need of center depth. If we have 2 picks in the 1st we could take a center with the other. We can also use a couple more D, hopefully we can address that with multiple 2nds that we’re going to aquire. |

People need to get over Treliving giving up a first to get rid of Monahan. It was the right move at the time and still could be a win for the Flames.
They wouldn't have been able to sign Kadri without unloading his salary, and Monahan looked done. They also had an extra first from the Tkachuk trade, and Treliving added every stipulation possible to ensure the Flames would have the higher of the picks.
Look at it like giving up a first for Kadri. If the Flames can get another 4-5 years with this year's Kadri where they can throw new young guys on his wings to help them develop, like they've been doing with Backlund for years, that's a pretty good return for a low first.
It's only a disaster if Florida is awful next year and the Flames end up losing a top-ten pick. |

We already have 2 picks in the 1st right now & now I think Tanev will get a Monahan type of return. Glad we are putting it to Treliving, you know he's itching to get Tanev & the only way as per Lebrun is they will have to cough up that 2024 1st. Hey Tanev 50% for 2024 1st & Robertson. Done deal. But they are agonizing over these prices but they arent going down any time soon. Lol
Hanifin will get us a 1st as well. So ok, do you go to Montreal & say, you can wait for the 2025 1st rounder or we'll give you Vancouvers in 2024 we have. Would you do that, does Montreal do that? Assume we have at least one other 1st from Hanifin or Tanev & we have 3 1sts in 2024. |

So with the Canucks and Jets loading up early with centers, where does that put the Avalanche and Knights? Who they targeting? Oilers need to do something more? Or do they stand pat?
Saw a link had the Oilers getting Primeau and Gallagher from Montreal. |

The real question is, who will be on the Calgary Flames in 2026? - Oildrum
Same can be said for the Oilers.
On to Trevor's evaluation I think there are some hit and miss pieces. Huberdeau if he can reign it back in and be in consideration. Ersson and Walsteadt could easily be in the Convo by then for Sweden. I believe Sanderson is Dual Can/US. If Kadri can step up and Marchand lose a step he could be that 4th line grinder/rat like Perry and Marchand have been in the past. Plus there will be new guys joining the flames group in the weeks to come and possibly thr offseason.
I dont think the Flames land any of the big prospects their fans are clamoring for like Borque or Poitras or the guys from Colorado, but they'll get solid other pieces, and the selections won't be made for a while yet. But it is fun to speculate who may or may not get those calls for 2026.
Rumor is a 2nd and near NHL ready player for Tanev, Leafs don't have 2nd and are reluctant to give their 1st on Tanev, Would a better prospect and 2 3rds suffice instead? A 3rd and 2 better but not quite NHL ready guys do it? Some history with Conny and Brad. Could they work out a something for me now and I'll make it to you later deal? |

Also Weegar is a top 4 as well. Not sure Hanifin resigns, would have happened by now & we absolutely cant allow him to walk for free. So we probably have just Andersen & Weegar as legit top 4 D. But on the up side, we're going to have cap space coming out the ying yang going into next year & Im sure we can find some decent opportunity to fill 1 or 2 of the 2nd pairing spots.
Lindholm is going to be a great addition for you guys. Take out those fcking Oilers please. - Kevin R
Forgot & I like him a lot my bad.
I always liked Lindholm needs more of the right linemates than it is an off year. Do our best to boot the Oil. |

Montreal does this if there’s someone they want when that pick is due. I realize we have 2-1sts, just wonder if we still do by the draft. Last time I remember the FLAmes having more than 2-1sts was when Festers crew blew those picks on nobodies
I think our scouting department has improved immensely since then.
Exciting time to be a Flames fan, that’s for sure.

If that’s the rumour for Tanev, Canucks would have jumped on that. Conroy is playing it smart as other GM’s are going to panic, and do stupid things. Monahan and Lindholm trades should spark more action as teams jockey for the player they see to push them over the top.😝
