The fans? The arena was like 70 minutes from my house. It’s like the Canucks playing in Abby. How does
That work? |

To be honest, I don't think it's a hockey decision. I think it's a TV market decision. The 15 largest TV markets in the US (2023–2024 Nielsen rankings). See a pattern?
New York (#1)
Los Angeles (#2)
Chicago (#3)
Philadelphia (#4)
Dallas-Fort Worth (#5)
Houston (#6)
Atlanta (#7)
Boston (Manchester) (#8)
Washington, D.C. (Hagerstown) (#9)
San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose (#10)
Phoenix (Prescott) (#11)
Tampa-St. Petersburg (Sarasota) (#12)
Seattle-Tacoma (#13)
Detroit (#14)
Minneapolis-St. Paul (#15) - bloatedmosquito
Ya you may be right. The thought of hockey in Atlanta makes me sick. (frank) you bettman |

The city/franchise have been given every chance plus more. You think this was happening somewhere in Canada the team wouldn't have been moved out years ago? They've tried to find multiple homes for the Coyotes. All the cities/municipalities and residents there voted against it. If it were easy it would have been done already. Move it away from those losers, they don't deserve an NHL team anymore. They had their chance. |

I'm assuming Gary and Co. see that top 15 list as their punch-list. A hockey team in every major American TV market. They will keep a team in Phoenix at all costs. Just a few markets left...
Seattle - check
Houston - ?
Atlanta - ?
Then Gary can rest for a thousand years before he is summoned again to wreak havoc on this world once more. |

Gary looked really shaky today at the presser. Whatever he has is getting worse and worse each year. Looks likes Parkinsons.

I suspect they would prefer to play in a college arena in Tempe than a 20,000 seat arena in Atlanta at 15% occupancy - CanuckDon
I know a few guys, one is a current coach and a few are alumni, the players aren’t happy with this situation. |

If you add in Matt Irwin, they are 9 deep. Agree defense is pretty set.
I would look at Nashville, Sisson, Trenin or even McCarron, maybe Seattle for one of Vantels boys, Tanev. - Reubenkincade
I was thinking Michael Rasmussen from Det the other day. |

The problem is ownership and location, it has nothing to do with the city of five million people and it’s interest. The majority of season ticket holders are Scottsdale residents but the mayor of Scottsdale wants no part of public funds paying for an arena and the owner doesn’t want to fork over the money all by himself.
Unlike Canada, where hockey is a cultural thing and cities and tax payers have no issues funding an NHL arena, generally US cities don’t want to fund these types of ventures. An NHL arena is a billion dollar venture, Alex Meruelo will have to take this on or sell the team. |

The people of Tempe had no idea what they were voting for. That’s on the NHL and trash ownership. Not an indication of the viability of the market place |

Which is a goddamn joke. Phoenix is 5 times the hockey market. Can’t wait for Atlanta to fail AGAIN as no one gives a (frank) about hockey and it’s a terrible place to live - CanuckDon
I’m not blessing the notion but it’s out there. There’s some money bags out there I don’t recall who wants to back an expansion team. |

Not happening. If the NHL was smart they would move them to Hamilton and give Ontario a real NHL team. I would think people in Ont could support a real NHL team. - VANTEL
Houston would be a good expansion team option. Idc about about more EST zones teams added. |

His cockiness at the end was hilarious though. "Of all the places that have expressed interest, last I checked as of 5 minutes ago, none of them have one yet." |

Asked Sidney Crosby about the #Canucks having six All-Stars given his history with Rick Tocchet and Jim Rutherford:
“They’ve done a great job. I don’t know if people before the year would be predicting where they’d be at, and some of the seasons the guys have had. I think that's a credit to the players obviously, but also to the people around them. I think Jim and Tocchet have done a great job helping them and their whole staff. They're playing really well as a team and individually their players been performing well. I think a lot of people deserve credit for that.” |
