Could if could if could if. So many possibilities! Enough excuses for that sorry franchise, move the team.
Like you said the original Jets moved because of arena issues. If this Coyotes team were anywhere in Canada they would have been moved 10 times already. - NewYorkNuck
Part of the issue is that the team has been so bad to mediocre since they first moved to Phoenix that it's hard getting the general public that isn't snowbird-related or tourists to want to spend tax dollars building an arena solely for the Coyotes and for the few non-major concerts/events that they can scrounge up.
It doesn't help that the Phoenix/Glendale/Tempe area has always gravitated towards football and basketball and that the Suns didn't want the team in their arena (and to my best knowledge, still don't). |

You know what's crazy, they are actually cash positive in that small college arena vs negative in a proper NHL arena out in Glendale. Da fuq!!! - Pacificgem
They must be cooking the books, or are adding in the annual 20 million dollar subsidy from the league. |

It's actually that they accept cash but don't pay out any. They're cash positive but debit negative |

Cash positive and still losing 10+ mil a season. Real good businessing - NewYorkNuck
I'm just reading what's being reported by Craig Morgan on the net, I think there's some creative book keeping going on. Meruelo is a total crook. |

Botch was killed by fentynal, as was the daughter of a close friend who thought she was doing demerol. - Marwood
Yeah, Botch was killed by fentynal laced cocaine. Buying it from the street even. I don’t get it. Botch should have known better. If you are doing coke, find a decent dealer. They are out there. Don’t buy poop on the street. |

From reports…
“Here is what my source has told me is fact:
The Coyotes applied for the land auction several months ago. They wanted 200 acres. The appraisal came in too high for Yotes bank account. They cut application in half, to 100 acres. Land Department has to redo review.”
“Now what does the NHL do? Me thinks they have to wait this one out. Meruelo holds the better hand right now.”
“Unless there is some kind of written commitment Meruelo has made, there is nothing in NHL Constitution or by laws or standard Consent Agreement that requires an arena to be of a certain size. Mullet conforms with CBA requirements. Team is cash flow positive at Mullet last year.” |

This is from some other article (not sure how legit, just Googled)
"But even though seats are priced high—on average, $160 a ticket—the team is still losing vast amounts of money, in excess of $10 million this season"
https://www.sportico.com/...-losing-money-1234701157/
I mean, your last paragraph is terrible for the league, and makes it look so bush league. I think the Board of Governors could just force him to sell the team. |

Move the team and offer him the opportunity to pay an expansion fee in a couple years when he's actually ready to have a serious team. |

Forcing him to sell was discussed in the comments, to which he replied, something to the effect..."the league can't force an owner to sell the team as long as they're in compliance with all rules and regulations, this is not the Soviet Union" (LOL)...thus his statement that the league just has to wait this out. |

This is from an article from the Hockey Writers a little bit ago about the Sens:
Melnyk is in countless legal battles on the arena, casino, and trying to get back his private plane. As a whole, the NHL Board of Governors could force a sale of the team.
Forcing an owner to sell is tricky but possible. In 2009, the then-Phoenix Coyotes went through a bankruptcy period and then subsequent sale. That situation revealed a clause in the NHL by-laws that would allow the NHL Board of Governors to force a sale of a team.
I get the compliance thing, but I'm sure if the NHL wanted they could get creative enough to say the Coyotes are ruining the brand etc etc and force a sale through. Plus, doesn't this dude not pay vendors and whatnot? Or weren't players waiting on checks for a while? |

14 teams lose money every year in the NHL, financially the Senators are only slightly ahead of the Coyotes in revenue generated, if you believe reports. They bleed money badly and they were just sold for 950 million.

Meruelo wasn't paying his bills in Glendale that's why they (city) kicked him out of there, apparently he has a history of doing that with his business ventures, not paying until forced to. The whole situation is beyond laughable at this point. But it's not like this is their first rodeo, this happens from time to time, but rarely goes on for this long. |

No, and some of those drafts had few if any actual NHL players, let alone stars that were drafted. I know the year Yakupov went 1st overall there wasn't many players that ended up playing over 100 NHL games (I forgot who we took in that draft) - DariusKnight
Drafting a winger 1oa is rarely the best pick imo. Either trade down or pass & pick the best C or maybe D. |

Just glanced through the NHL constitution, doesn't look like the league can do much about the arena size, as long as it is NHL standard ice surface.
It did make several references to rules of the league, which I assume are rules that govern ownership, and it talked about the by-laws, none of which I was able to find.
As NYN says, very bush-league.

Perhaps it'll get addressed into their laws that govern the league sooner than later. To not have a minimum seating capacity is bizarre, to say the least. |

You wanna know an incredible stat, I love baseball, so it's a baseball reference. Tony Gwynn faced Greg Maddux, Pedro Martinez, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz, all hall of fame pitchers, 323 times, he struck out only three times IN TOTAL....Gwynn was arguably the greatest pure hitter in baseball over the past 70 years!!
I know that'll probably go in one ear and out the other with you, because it won't mean anything to you, but it's an incredible stat!! - Pacificgem
I idolized Rod Carew. Self taught a similar approach to my swing but from the right side. Hand to eye contact.
Of Carew's 353 career stolen bases, 17 were thefts of home, including seven in 1969 -- one short of the single-season record Ty Cobb established in 1912. He also won seven American League batting championships, including six in seven years between 1972-78.
Rod and Willie Mays are the only players in baseball history to be Rookie of the Year (1967), Most Valuable Player (1977), have 3,000 hits (1985) and be voted into the Hall of Fame (1991). |

The Vancouver Canucks are “poking around” on free agent forward Phil Kessel, according to Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie and Dhali — The Team.
lol. I think we’d have our new whipping boy if true.

For the simple minds, like yourself, Reuby and Nighthawk, unaccomplished people in life, it doesn't surprise me that you both wouldn't appreciate the beauty of any stat when presented to you. - Pacificgem
