You're right, it is typical of me. I don't settle for almost. I think it's pathetic to lower your standards and accept almost. The last almost was 14 years ago. Hey as long as we get an "almost" every 15 years or so, that's good enough right? So we've sat through how many years now of this team not being relevant and you want to settle for "almost"? That's all you can ask for? I think it's sad and pathetic to think that way. Demand more and set standards higher. - MJL Not sure what planet you live on, but the one I live on says that there are no guarantees. Building a team for the playoffs and giving yourself a legit shot to win it all is about as good as it gets. Not sure why that seems to confuse you so much. You think a total rebuild and doing things the way you want to is gonna guarantee anything? I don't. Looking back...the Flyers had a legit shot to win it all from 1985-1988. Then they had their window from 1995-2000 with Lindros. Had another chance in 2004 and then the lightning in a bottle year of 2010. Can go back to the 1970's and the 1980 team too, but I'm not going back that far. No guarantees I say. |

The Zegras angle is interesting and Iâm a fan of his. Hes got loads of talent and has some cockiness and can be flashy. Not all that responsible defensively. Sounds a bit like TK before Torts arrived. To those who think he would not mesh well with Torts, think of this: if Zegras is coachable like TK or even Owen Tippett, then he could flourish here and reach his ceiling. If heâs more like Hayes or Provorov, he certainly wouldnât do so well. Before the Flyers would pull the reiggwr on a deal for him, they better do their homework as to his work ethic, desire and coachability. It would be fun in a couple of years to watch MM and TZ trade off Michigan goals every other night. Hahaha |

I honestly don't know much about his game, but if he is one of those type players no need to do it cause Torts might hate him more than Frost. - Phillywhiteout
I'm pretty sure Torts would hate him |

Yea, that's what I'm looking for chances to win the Cup. I don't know why we haven't had any parades for these chances. Raised some banners for the chances. Is there a website i can go to see where all the Cup chances are listed? - MJL

In live on a planet where I would like to see the team I root for win the Cup once as an adult in my lifetime. I guess you live on a planet that since the Flyers have been to some cup finals back in the 80's and 90's as well as 2010, you are fulfilled. Since that's all you can ask for on your planet. I'm completely sure about how it confuses you. I'm completely sure on why you think that I think that anything is a guarantee!

So basically anyone who says the Flyers have a culture for losing would be full of poop. Probably the same person that posted âWhat have you done for me latelyâ by Janet Jackson, while asking the organization to tank. Not sure I follow the logic but there you have it, folks.
Thank you, Bill. - roenick97
Think about it... if every team were to be guaranteed a cup on a rotating basis... presently, there would be a 32 year gap between their first guaranteed Cup and their next one. I understand that the number of franchises have changed over the years, but by those standards, the Flyers are still ahead of the game presently... Now the Leafs on the other hand would be far behind, BUT, going off 13 cups they actually may be ahead of the game (ignoring the fact that there were only 6 teams in the NHL for most of the 13 cups... slightly more during periods of previous NHL history).
The way I like to look at it is how much excitement, and enjoyment the Flyers have provided me over the last 50+ years... but for maybe three extended periods of non-convention, there has been a steady run of hopeful cup runs and memories... and, had the Cap never been established, more than likely the Flyers would have had only one drought after their cup years.
The ones that are screwed by this thinking of course are those too young to have lived through all the glory days... or... those of us so old that we can no longer remember them. 𼴠Thank goodness my memory loss is more contained to the short-term type (*)
(*) My apologies to all those PC people that this last paragraph may have bothered..

- MJL Again, as I said to the other guy, I don't really care about the history anymore either, but people that say that they have sucked for 40+ years are wrong. I am just as jaded as anyone else on here. Hell, we had season tickets from 1985-2005 and saw many years of great hockey, but no ultimate reward. The reality at this point is that you want to see them build a team that can make many kicks at the Cup can. That still guarantees nothing. The more shots you get the better the odds. Only one team gets to raise the silver chalice every year.

I wasnât alive in the mid 70âs and have little to no memory of the 80âs. Some canât be grateful for what they have, they just complain more and more as if life hasnât given them anything. I would have loved a Cup as much as anyone in 1997 and 2010 but the fact I got to experience that kind of suspense at all was pretty amazing, especially with the cast of characters we had on the roster. I canât believe Chris Pronger ever played here and made the impact he did. |

if you do that enough times, do you think your odds go up or down? What does anything in the past have to do with that now?
Your first post is this
"Thanks Bill! I get sick and tired of all the whining about these Cup droughts. The Flyers have had PLENTY of chances to win Cups since their last Cup win, but whiners gonna whine."
Then you post
"They had legit chances to win the Cup and they have been competitive way more often than not. That's all you can ask for."
You then post
"the Flyers had a legit shot to win it all from 1985-1988. Then they had their window from 1995-2000 with Lindros. Had another chance in 2004 and then the lightning in a bottle year of 2010. Can go back to the 1970's and the 1980 team too,"
To top it all off, you post
"Again, as I said to the other guy, I don't really care about the history anymore either, "
Can't make it up. It's the same thing as last night, when you attacked Black Hand for saying something and then a short time later agreeing in reply to me when I posted the same exact thing he did. It's hysterical.

That 2010 run was probably my favorite hockey experience. I was alive for the cup years but I was just a wee lad. I barely remember it anymore. |
