max he can get as a ufa is 7 years i thought.

- Peter Richards

Well if he got traded at the deadline next season, he could sign for 8 years with that team.

That was three years ago. TK's new contract is over 2 years away before it kicks in. That will be 5 years between one signing and the other with the cap up significantly in the interim.
- MBFlyerfan

That's not my point here at all. My point is that Couts (AT THE TIME) signed what we thought was a team friendly contract. No one (AT THE TIME) thought Couts would have signed for less than $8M AAV. All I am saying is TK might do the same thing, sign a TEAM FRIENDLY contract. Of course the AAV will be higher 3 years later, and with the cap going up next year. That is a given. All I am saying is the Flyers and TK can work out term, AAV and no trade provisions so that it works for both sides. And if they can't it's better to know now so the Flyers have a plan going into the off season.

Honestly, the window is not 10 years and if it took 10 years Hilferty on down should be fired. The Flyers should be able to get back to prominence within 3-5 years. They have some good players on this team, good players in their system and a lot of draft capital (especially after this deadline). With smart moves they should be legitimately competing sooner than later, especially IF and when Michkov comes over.
- jd250

Define prominence. I bet that when all is said and done, if the Flyers actually become a legit cup contender, it's between 5 and 10 years time. How has that model worked for them in the last decade or so? They need elite talent. Not smart moves and draft capital. They're competing now. They're no where near a legit cup contender. Michkov is still 2 years away and will team some time to acclimate to the NHL.

Did anyone think Couts would extend for less than $8M AAV? I sure didn't.
- jd250

he probably knew he was damaged goods and took the bag.

point is tk isnt getting signed under 8 million. or less than 8 years.

Even if he takes 10-15% less than market value I still want to trade him. Flyers NEED top level talent. Keep adding picks and prospects. Draft well and develop. Keep cap flexibility to take advantage of teams in the future. I like TK but he is not the guy you build around.

They need a lot more talent outside of Michkov.

I don’t count michkov as I don’t think he’ll ever come over.

This team is better than it was last year, and way better than it was two years ago. They are taking steps forward. TK has proven he is part of the solution here, not part of the problem.
- jd250

He is part of the potential future solution. As trade bait.

what happened? got max term. got paid. did he take less? I dont know that?

he also came up through the CC club and likes the no pressure environment. winning is secondary.

so when TK gets 8 year and more than 8 million what will your take be? Assuming he isnt traded. If he wants to win he will test free agency.

All the more reason they should continue to acquire picks.

Rebuild over...I have been a fan since March of 1980, and I am getting so tired of the same mistakes happening over and over. Signing TK is a mistake...he is a decent forward, but not an 8 year contract player, and I am sure he will be overpaid. Signing Seeler is not needed either. They never learn. The events that are unfolding with this team...I dunno....has me questioning if I am going to follow the team much longer. If this turns out to be true, I think I will officially lose what little faith I have left in the team.

I have been holding out, hoping they will make the right moves, the hard decisions, and really actually stick to a rebuild and doing things the right way. The right way does not seem to be the Flyers way. I am also disgusted with Briere's lies. He has lied constantly since he took office, so why should anyone take his comments on the rebuild seriously.

unless we get a lindholm returm for him we can't trade him

There is no change here at all ... just in your own little fantasy world on planet Delusia!

Of course there is. You went from a ridiculous tirade of being sick and tired of fans and how he is the face of the franchise, heart and soul and a leader that has to be re-signed. To then later saying signing him to an 8 year deal is less than ideal. You just didn't think it through, as usual. Now you've been schooled and are slowly waffling. Just like you always do.

I have no source. I’m just worried about it and with the luck we’ve had this year, I fully expect the worst.

Look, who is say the Flyers don't get lucky in the draft? They are bit overdue for luck aren't they? And who is to say Michkov will be elite? The Flyers got Tippet from Florida because Fletcher insisted they throw in a young player to save face, and look what we got! Carolina drafted Aho in the 2nd Round. Tampa drafted Kucherov in the 2nd round and Point in the 3rd round. The Flyers can do both here, sign players they think are part of the solution, like Tippet, like TK, while also trading other players for draft capital for chances to get lucky in the draft. Then its up to the Flyers to draft the right players and develop them.

One team I am always amazed by is Boston. They never really go into a rebuild, at least I can’t think of one since like 2000. They lose chara. Np. Lose bergy, Tuuka krejci. Don’t miss a beat. Draft later due to continuous success and more importantly develop players properly. Ullmark. Average goalie with Buffalo becomes incredible. I haven’t been able to fully figure it out but it’s incredible. They draft so smartly and find a guy like pasta who many teams passed on. Shows that you don’t need to do a full tear down rebuild to have a contender. Amass picks and hope you hit on them.
- Hextall271

I seriously thought they blew it when they had those 3 first round picks in a row and Picked Zboril, DeBrusk and Senyshyn at 13, 14, and 15. I thought there was no way they could recover from that debacle. But they just kept plugging away.

The Flyers handled it well I think. But yeah hopefully Cutter's opinion of the Flyers is not the prevailing opinion throughout the league.

The Bruins did blow it. If they were even remotely prepared for that draft they would have been the next NHL dynasty. Instead, they have won 1 Cup since 1972 solely and entirely because Tim Thomas had probably the best playoff performance in NHL history, while his counterpart Roberto Luongo puked on this skates.

LOL, yea, he got 8 years at 7.75M. His contract was signed in August of 2021. Konecny will at best sign his deal in July of 2024. Almost 3 years difference. Do you think player salaries have escalated in that time frame? You really don't get it do you?
- MJL

Why were you OK with the Coots deal and not with locking TK in for 8 years? It's funny I didn't like the Coots deal, but am having a tough time with deciding where I stand with TK.

Couts is here for the long haul I'm afraid. He is clearly not the player he was before the injury, I think we have enough of a sample size to see that now. He still has value to the Flyers in a lesser role, but that contract will not age well I'm afraid.
