The smart move is to trade Konecny between now and this years deadline. They should also be willing to retain 50% as TK at an aav of 2.75 million is hugely valuable to a contending team who will have a 2 year window to compete with him.
The Flyers will probably not be contending before 2028 when TK will be 31. And that will be the earliest their window will be opening.
TK at 2.75 per through 24-25 should bring back a 1st, the acquiring team’s top prospect and probably a future 2nd as well. It’s the kind of move smart GMs make.
The Flyers have had a nice season, but don’t lose sight of how many holes they need to fill before they contend:
A 1C
Another solid middle 6 C
Another top 6 wing
At least one, if not 2 top pair Dmen
A goalie to pair with Ersson
The pieces Konecny brings could fill one or two of these holes. Plus, with Hart gone, if you trade TK and Walker for futures there is a very good chance that the Flyers drop low enough in the standings to snag a top 10 pick, which they could badly use. |

unless we get a lindholm returm for him we can't trade him - 2Real
Lindholm return:
A low first
A struggling, mid 20's forward who is being benched, also he was Vancouvers cap dump (5.5 per/ 2 years) to fit in Lindholm
A prospect who has said he won't sign with a Canadian team
A b grade prospect
Conditional pick.
For a UFA.
I think TK can get that.... |

I heard our rebuild is going to take 3-5 years?
We have no No1 center
We have no No1 defenseman
Rebuild should take 5-7 years if done correctly, and the first move we need to do is get Chief as HC of LHV. Laps needs to go he can't coach and we have known this for over 5 years but they keep holding on to these guys who can't do the job.
Draft yes but it means jack squat if a coach like laps is there to develop. I would also search for Chiefs replacement as I want him to be HC of the Flyers before Michkov get here. Thinking a college asst coach or something along those lines. Someone with new ideas that we need. |

100% agree
I was one of the ones who wanted to trade Coots because of the same reason we have going on with TK. If we are serious about being a contender then we need to make some hard moves along the way.
Retaining on TK would be smart and we could do the same for walker and then use LTIR space to take on expiring contracts for more picks.

Why is it a mistake? Because we won’t have the cap room? Because we’ll likely give him a.m NTC? I think they can re sign him and deal him if need be. As I mentioned, I don’t think the plan is to go into a 10 year rebuild. If it is, should we also jettison Farabee? Brink? Drysdale? York? Tk isnt 35.
I just don’t see that no one on the current roster fits the plan to be in the contention window. - Hextall271
I think the mistake came when the extended Tippett first. If you truly believe Konecny is part of the future you should have worked something out with him first.
You know what you're getting with TK. There's zero risk aside from injury. Tippett is "could be" hopefully." |

A player is not eligible to be re-signed to a new contract until the player is in the final year of his current contract. The earliest Konecny can be re-signed is July 1st of this year. Tippett was already into the final year on his current deal.

If it’s a 10 year rebuild we’re staring at, and the plan is to sink low enough to consistently be picking in the top five for that stretch, you might as well trade all the young players on the current roster. The issue is that they may progress and not allow the team to have multiple top 5 picks. I kind of think this conversation is academic because I don’t think they have a 10 year rebuild plan. I think they’re more a 3 to 5. Nothing they’ve said or shown me says they’re going full Edmonton or Buffalo. |

I've said from the beginning that Tippett sort of makes TK expendable. We will have similar to more production for years to come at Tipp's price point, we won't be tying up another wing spot and save a boat-load of money by not signing TK - not to mention the haul I think we can get for him.
from everything I've read they are going to resign him though. I don't think it would be the end of the world but we should move him.
i'm really 50/50 on what to do with him. i don't think the flyers have an easy decision. If you can get him to take a slight team discount to stay then sign him. Not sure I want to pay him what I think he could get. |

Already starting to worry that we got hosed in that deal. Really stings not having an up and coming sniper top 5 prospect in the system. |

you should re-read your post. do you think this is how adults act?
these "gotcha" moments on an internet forum... does it release endorphins for you? don't you see how childish that is? - anti-lame
well said! To summarize my thoughts on extending TK:
1. extending TK does nothing to negate the Flyers stated goal to rebuild the organization
2. I think an extension has multiple parameters to tweak so it works for both sides. |

The Tippet and Poehling re-signings weren't expedited. They were signed in a typical time frame of when a lot of players are re-signed. The Gauthier situation had zero to do with it. - MJL
And you know this for sure how exactly? Where you mowing Briere's lawn and overheard a conversation? |

sure it does. you are then stuck with him instead of selling high to acquire future pieces that will help you down the line. rebuilding 101
you have stated you dont want to give him 8 years at 8 million per. What will your stance be when that happens at a minimum? |

He's not that far away from where he was before the injury. Still a really good player. - MJL
Do you watch him play? Couts faceoffs are almost back to his usual standard and he was never been a great skater, but he does to me look slower and behind the play and awful lot, and his production is below his typical level. Only 1 goal in his last 16 games. |

A couple posters mentioned that 5 years is not reasonable so you’d be looking at 6 to 10. I think their plan is 3 to 5 based on actions and what they’ve said. |

Of course it does. It stops the Flyers from acquiring key future assets that could help in a rebuild.
2. I think an extension has multiple parameters to tweak so it works for both sides. - jd250
It's always a negotiation but it's not going to be what you think it can be. It's going to be for 8 years, have a relatively high AAV and included trade and movement clauses.
You left out your thoughts on how others are whiney little infants and how you're tired of the crap from people on this forum. How you claim others don't understand. Every post you make, reinforces that it is you, who doesn't understand. There is literally years of material that proves that.

Ummm, let me think. The NHL salary structure and the history of when players in the NHL are routinely re-signed to new deals.
