Do you watch him play? Couts faceoffs are almost back to his usual standard and he was never been a great skater, but he does to me look slower and behind the play and awful lot, and his production is below his typical level. Only 1 goal in his last 16 games.
- jd250

He doesn't have any skating issues. He is still driving play, still controlling scoring chances and shot attempts and playing strong defensively. His underlying numbers are outstanding. Yes, his point production is down but he has missed 2 full years of play. It takes time to get back to full speed. We've seen this before with players coming off of major injuries. I see that from watching him play but I wouldn't expect you to see it because you don't have a clue of what you're looking at.

what actions?
- hello it's me 2050

Well, the re signing of Tippett. The fact that they didn’t trade cutter for picks but rather for a player already in the nhl. As well, they haven’t taken action to trade tk or jettison all vets like tk to sink to the bottom a la Chicago.

re-signing tippet was BAU

keeping TK and other vets keeps them in the same hamster wheel spinning.

None of their actions so far tell me they are rebuilding.

I think that this trade deadline will be a large indicator of what the front office is thinking in terms of re-build timeline. The problem is that it takes two teams to trade. If the deals aren't there for Danny then we'll have to be ok with keeping some of these guys. I fully expect 1 or 2 D to be gone and possibly 1 to 2 forwards. Who that will be remains to be seen. I think the whole league is aware we are sellers and the question is can they snag anyone "cheap" from under our noses.

We also have to keep in mind that both Laughton has two more years and Konecny has one more year on their contracts. So if they don't get get offers they believe are worth it, they are not backed against a wall as if it were the last years of their deals. The Flyers should be leveraging the cost certainty and hold out for the best deals possible. If not, try again later.

Walker, on the other hand, needs to be dealt. I would like them to deal Seeler too but I don't think that happens.

They should also be listening on Hathaway and Atkinson, but the same thing applies as they each have another year, don't deal them just to deal them, use their contracts as leverage and work from a position of strength.

For GH and Cam yes I just deal them to deal them to get them off the books IMO.

Why were you OK with the Coots deal and not with locking TK in for 8 years? It's funny I didn't like the Coots deal, but am having a tough time with deciding where I stand with TK.
- Dkos

I'm with you, but my line is pretty clear. If the Flyers get an offer that sounds too good to pass up then trade him, but if the Flyers can lock him up with a reasonable contract then I'm ok with that too.

Personally I would want a max of 5-6 years and I would be fine with 8m per for that, but if the Flyers have to play the "Demand gotta pay" game then get the best deal and move on. TK is one of my favorite Flyers, but sometimes not signing the long deal is always better than doing it....unless the player is a consistent MEGA star, which is very few in the NHL, then you have to do it.

A player is not eligible to be re-signed to a new contract until the player is in the final year of his current contract. The earliest Konecny can be re-signed is July 1st of this year. Tippett was already into the final year on his current deal.
- MJL

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't aware of the specifics behind extentions. It makes sense doing what they did but I'm still standing by what I said on how I'm not digging the 8 years on Tippett.

Hopefully no one unless it's a player coming back from a traded Flyer player.

The absolute LAST thing I want them to do, assuming they are still in a playoff spot March 8th, is give up draft capital for a "run" or just to get in.

The smart move is to trade Konecny between now and this years deadline. They should also be willing to retain 50% as TK at an aav of 2.75 million is hugely valuable to a contending team who will have a 2 year window to compete with him.

The Flyers will probably not be contending before 2028 when TK will be 31. And that will be the earliest their window will be opening.

TK at 2.75 per through 24-25 should bring back a 1st, the acquiring team’s top prospect and probably a future 2nd as well. It’s the kind of move smart GMs make.

The Flyers have had a nice season, but don’t lose sight of how many holes they need to fill before they contend:
A 1C
Another solid middle 6 C
Another top 6 wing
At least one, if not 2 top pair Dmen
A goalie to pair with Ersson

The pieces Konecny brings could fill one or two of these holes. Plus, with Hart gone, if you trade TK and Walker for futures there is a very good chance that the Flyers drop low enough in the standings to snag a top 10 pick, which they could badly use.

I love TK (I think he is more comparable to Marchand at the stage in his career- less suspensions) but you are spot on about the needs and how TK could help us with that list.

Sean Monahan Centering the second line for those expecting him to center the fourth line.

All one had to do is examine their roster. The common sense conclusion would be they got him for the 2C. What GM gives up a 1st for a 4C?

If they aren’t in the position to seriously compete at the deadline then they should sell. I feel like I’ve been saying this every deadline for the last 10+ years and they almost never listen.

Mediocre Flyers teams at the deadline are like a deer in headlights. Just sell and better position yourself for the future.

I just saw Iginla has a kid in the WHL. Draft this kid this summer no matter what!

Iginla is probably my all time favorite non Flyer.

I think it’s the 3 to 5 year rebuild. Trade of provy for picks is another one.

Flahr has shown he is a very good drafter. the problem is the Flyers under Fletcher traded away their 2nd and 3rd round picks.
- jd250

Not sold.....havent seen much fruit as of yet but in his/Chucks biggest moment, they chose Cutter over Jiricek

But he should have been gone because he has Fletch's stink all over him
