With the Rodriguez deal and Vlad's arbitration done, the Jays CBT number is now projected to be just under $250M. The first level of the tax is $237M, the second is $257M. Cash payroll is up ~$15M from last year's opening day roster. There should be room for one more good move.

FWIW, the 2nd tier shouldn't make a big difference. If the Jays were to offer $20M AAV to someone like Matt Chapman, the 2nd tax level would only add $1.56M to the total compared to a deal if there were no second tax level.

I think Briesbois and the hopeful fanbase sees themselves as buyers, but I think this season is a wash, even if they sneak in on a wildcard.

Vasi has not been the same since the surgery. He's rather ordinary this year. Unless he gets hot at the right time in the postseason, the Bolts are another early exit.

If I was Briesbois, I might add a depth dman, but I wouldn't squander what little assets the team has left on a desperation rental.
