Cause the flames stopped contract talks after the poor start, why hasn’t he come out and asked for a trade ? - Hockeyfan4life14

That's what I thought too. Seems like mental gymnastics at this point to believe he actually wants to be there. I can see CGY holding out as long as possible in the event they make a playoff spot, but if Hanifin actually wanted to be in CGY he should have been extended by now. PIT with Guentzel for instance probably want to extend him, but if they fall far out of contention, they might trade him as a rental.

Just listened to the latest 32 thoughts.
Supposedly the offer from the Flames has been on the table for a while. They want to bring clarity to the situation by the end of the week. The longer it goes this week, the more it looks like he will be traded.
Not looking like he is sticking around. I hope we get the return for the Hanifin of this of this year and not like the Hanafin of the last so many years. Guy has been a Stud as of late.

Showcasing Marky! Devils got to watch the tape a realize they were out goalied last night. It could have been far worse had they not struck iron so many times. |

Unless he gets paid. Tre got good value on Hanifin and Lindholm when he resigned them. Now the skate is on the other foot. |

It hasn't been reported by anyone credible. It's all speculation. He told the Flames at the end of last season that he wasn't going to resign, but in October he publically said he loved Calgary and was happy that negotiations were happening. If you have no intention of staying in Calgary, why waste everyone's time and money to go through negotiations and agree on a contract? Why wouldn't he just play out the year and/or privately ask for a trade? Everyone who wanted out was traded.

Seen this and what do you think and what the Flames can get in return....
Flames' Markstrom willing to waive no-movement clause for trade to Devils |

Yeah the team seems to be really getting a good vibe to trying to make that wildcard spot. I can see us keeping Marky when we're this close & then review trade options before the draft. Markstroms value wont change with 2 years left on deal. |

The experience for wolf is what matters most with no pressure to win if they trade marky now and get a load for him from someone trying to make the dance |

I remember Warrener talking on Barn Burner this last pre-season. He said if they trade any of Lindholm, Tanev, or Hanafin, the others will follow.
He explained that these are all extremely competitive individuals with short careers. They want to get paid, and they want to win cups- preferably both.
Calgary no longer has a 1C. If Hanafin goes, that is a major hit in the top 4D. It's Worse if they lose both Hanafin and Tanev. I wonder if Marky loves Calgary so much that he would want to stick around.
Watching the game last night, I kept thinking that Jersey is only a Markstrom and a Tanev away from contending.
That being said, they do not know what they have in Wolf. Ideally, they could find an old vet like Quick that would be willing to show him the ropes. |

One big thing in the Flames' favour is that Boston really doesn't have a spot for him unless he's willing to give them a massive discount. They already have one of the best D groups in the league and their top four are rock solid and work really well together. McAvoy, Lindholm, and Carlo are all locked up for a while and I doubt the Bruins would want Hanifin over extending Grzelcyk unless Hanifin isn't asking for more than Grzelcyk. They have far more pressing needs than a 6-7 million second pairing defenceman.
Calgary probably offers the most money in a pretty good situation where the vibes seem good, and he gets to be the top defenceman for a while. |

Boston has the following coming off their CAP next year:
Debrusk 4,000,000, JVR 1,000,000, Grzelcyk 3,687,500, Forbort 3,000,000, Shattenkik 1,000,050, Looch 1,000,000.
I also could see them moving 1 of Ullmark or RFA Swayman this summer which opens up more $.
A top 4 of Hani/MvAvoy and Lindholm/Carlo makes a lot of sense to me. |

Things have been going great with McAvoy/Grzelcyk. Why wouldn't they just bring back Grzelcyk for a lot less money than it'll take to bring in Hanifin and try and spend that extra money to find a better centre? They already have 20 million commited to three defencemen for three more years.
He wants to be paid like a 1-2. Boston has the budget to pay a 4-5. |

There's not really a single biased point there unless you think someone else is going to offer him 60 million or more.
Ask a Bruins fan if they think they should be spending 7 million a year on another defenceman. |

Pretty quiet on the Flames front.
I am guessing if Hanafin was going to re-sign, we would have heard.
I saw some rumor that the Flames were looking at trading Pelletier to Montreal for one of their young D prospects. |

I think that's probably just nonsense because he's French so has to be rumoured to be going to the Habs. Reinbacher is probably untouchable, Huston's an unsigned American College player whose stock is rocketing upwards, and they can't trade Mailloux after they put up with all that poop to draft him only to see him be a star somewhere else.
