That’s a very bold statement. I would have bet the farm on some of this last year too.
Don’t ever discount just how bad this GM is and the loyalty to terrible players - lulags
Half of those guys WANT to be out of here. So I've already got a leg up.
EJ and Kyle are all but cooked. Girgensons is the only guy I'm unsure of.
Last year, he ran it back because they served a role. All of them.
I won't justify their pay but I understand their existence, at least at that point. Now?
Out of that pile, EJ Okposo and Girgensons are the ones to barely justify a roster spot. Don't read too much into that and don't mistake that factual statement for my support of their existence here.

What would you propose to use to acquire said Tkachuk? Cause it's going to be a pretty rough (frank). - TheSabresTaco
It is, but I believe you get what you pay for, and the pain of trading away players should be exceeded by the benefit realized with a player of Tkachuk's ilk.
We saw yesterday that a posted CF trade for Kaprizov was:
- Mitts
- Savoie
- 24-1st
- 25-2nd
Brady Tkachuk is a much different player, but still very productive with many other attributes I think would change the culture and results...more that Kaprizov although what a scoring machine he is!
I think less than above, but it would hurt...maybe something like:
- Tage (Cozens?)
- Kulich
- 25-1st
Gets close one way or another. Add on either side to balance.

My prediction for deadline.
Only player that gets moved is Johnson. We get a 5th and retain 1/2 his salary.
The rest of the GM’s offer 7th round picks and want salary retained on others. Adams farks around too long on counters or makes stupid counters, so no one else gets moved.
He resigns at least one of the aforementioned deadweight players to a 1 year deal this summer.

One thing that usually gets lost in the TDL is that a lot of teams have garbage to sell. So unless there's a unique trait attached to that garbage (cheap depth/leadership/PK ability) they're unlikely to be sold.
Now, I think EJ, Girgensons, Okposo and Bryson have those qualities. Bryson because he doesn't need waivers, so an org can stash him till after the deadline or for the playoffs. The rest can be used in depth roles and leadership.
I have significant doubts that Kyle will move. It would need to be a very strong deal to even ask him. He's very involved in his kids' activities and I think he'd rather stay here.

They need to save that money for when Donald gets fired and they need to pay his new contract out. |

I was neutral on Kyle/Zemgus. They did their jobs last season.
Very low on EJ. Don't recall how I felt about Clifton but I don't think I minded too much in a bottom pair role.
Jost was (frank)ing dumb.
Keeping Olofsson was (frank)ing dumb. I assumed Bryson to waivers for depth. |

I don't think I'm in here, but I still think this team is massively underproducing and it was the changes to structure and strategy that caused our downfall. Boot Donny for a good coach and IMO, we're in a playoff spot today. - QuinnFan

The team wasn't good enough last year when everyone had career years. I don't see how they'd be in a playoff spot with the same roster with Herb Brooks coaching but we'll never know.
Or maybe we will when Kevyn gives us the same roster next year too |

The core of this team is good enough. The goalie play is good enough. The periphery is D- and the coaching staff is F--
This goalie play last year has us above the WC.
If I haven't already lost my mind on this team, you just (frank)ing wait till July 1. |

I am curious how many back up goalies they played last season vs the beginning of this season?
I also am curious how many teams wrote the Sabres games off last season vs coming prepared (for the start of the season at least) this season.
The blurred lines between the talent on this roster and them being a good team is odd to me...they have never proven they can succeed when it matters.
New front office is desperately needed, they will move out a significant portion of this roster though proving the players are not the right build for a winning team.
