Hey Tre might start sniffing glue - Dozzer
greetings - does anyone know the actually CAP rules that apply for the Leafs at this point?
1) trying to understand what CAP Treliving has to play with the injuries to Murray & Klingberg which are pretty much all season?
2) would they CAP relief for when Samsonov was absent?
3) would they get retro CAP relief for the period of time that Woll was out injured (now that he's been put on LITR) ?
I would like to understand this to some degree - so I can make some "realistic" trade proposals

They put Woll on LTIR to give them the room to bring Lajoie up and actually lost around $9K in cap space. Sitting at about $26,666.00 in cap space atm. There’s moves they could make but a lot of them are risky due to guys needing to clear waivers.
Basically the leafs are sitting at a situation where they’ll need to give up the same amount of salary they want to bring in.
1: those two are on LTIR so he already has their cap relief
2: when he was down with the marlies $1.15 million cap hit of his salary went with him, the rest of it stayed with the leafs. Not that it matters, the way he has played since coming back putting him on waivers again would essentially be waving goodbye.
3: I’ve never heard of a retro cap relief, won’t pretend to know if there is a tweak they could use or not tho.
Tbh unless it’s for a true blue stud D-man I really hope the leafs don’t do much because they simply don’t have the picks and prospects worth selling for a questionable move.

People get this wrong a lot so careful what you read. The 'done for the season' LTIR guys don't matter. They're money in/out - ie. it's a wash. The short term LTIR guys (Woll) matter b/c you need room for him when he's healthy. Leafs also have a handful of I.R. guys who also matter b/c they count.
So 83.5M to cover the roster they want to have including everyone except Muzzin, Klingberg and Murray.
Right now the Leafs have 26 guys included in that 83.5M cap space. That includes 14F, 9D, and 3G.
Lajoie will go back down if a few days. That still leaves them with 25 bodies. They'll drop 2 or 3 b/c they have to when Kampf and Jarnkrok are ready to come off I.R. They can do a few things there - Holmberg could go down (no waivers), or Reaves, McMann, Jones or Lagersson could get waived. I think they'll keep things as is until the they get through the trade deadline ..just to keep flexibility.
Then, remember, if they're looking to add a body or two by trade then they'll have to remove a body or two just to stay below the 23 roster limit. And there's no reason the Leafs have to carry 23 ....could do 21 like they've done before. Lots of teams do.
The math - if they don't move out any significant $$ - they could have as much as 4.75 in space to add. So basically, with salary retention, they could add 8-9M in salary if they wanted.
Lots of cap space. The thing that might limit what they do though is their lack of picks/prospects.

Only 2 goalies now, Woll was put onto LTIR yesterday. So he’s gone for at least another month or 10 games now minimum moving forward.
I only think they did it to bring Lajoie up tbh.

Calgary GM's office. Phone rings.
Conroy : Hello?
Tree : This is Tree. I'll give you a first, Lagesson, and Timmins for Hanifin with 50% retained.
Conroy : You know, that is crazy, because I was thinking of a package almost exactly along those lines. I think we can do this. Hold on, the other line is ringing in.... Hello?
Briebois : Sergachev is toast this season. Let's talk about Hanifin...
Conroy : Well, I am in the process of closing a deal with Tree in Toronto on that actually....
Briesbois : Hol up. I'll give you Perbix, our first round pick in 2026, our first round pick in 2027, a 2025 2nd rounder, a 2025 third rounder, a 2026 fourth rounder, three fifth rounders, three six rounders, and four seventh rounders spread across 2025-2028. In addition, my hot wife will show you her tits.
Conroy : Sold. Hanifin, pack your bags, your going to Tampa.
Hanifin : oh boy! Beaches, female doges and no taxes!

Woll was retro to December I had read. So they can pull him whenever he's ready. Although last I read it sounded like he was still weeks away.
Ya, they moved him from IR to LTIR to create space to bring Lajoie up ...but they only brought him up for short term cover for the sicko's (gio, mccabe and timmy) |

Woll’s move was retroactive to December 9th or something. He could come back tomorrow if he was healthy |

Yeah the date it started is what I openly admitted that I didn’t know or if it would be possible. Either way he’s sitting on the LTIR right now so I wonder if they’ll keep him there for the space once they no longer need Lajoie since he’s so far off at being ready. Heard he has started practicing though, just not in the full blown team practices. |

Not too concerning since he’s apparently a ways away from being ready to go either way.
So they can date LTIR back to when he was put on just the IR? |

Happy “any contract is tradable” day.
On this day in 2016, the Toronto Maple Leafs pulled off a blockbuster trade with their provincial rivals trading Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf alongside Cody Donaghey, Casey Bailey, Matt Frattin, and Ryan Rupert to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Jared Cowan, Colin Greening, Tobias Lindberg, Milan Michalek, and a second-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft |

"There will be pain" ...the early days of the Shanaplana were filled with optimism. We were all so Zezel back then.
Clear the decks with 88 and 16 in the bank and 34 on route.
