Hard to believe Morgan will get a long suspension, when Trouba got nothing for this.

I tried sending a private message to Ek a few times over the years. I never got an acknowledgement or reply.

Under the user control panel, I clicked once on "Write Blog" and wrote one. It vanished into a memory hole and I never saw it again. I still have no idea what happened to it or where it went after I clicked that button.

I just assumed Ek is passionate about hockey but completely incompetent about running a website. He probably doesn't even know how to work the aging obsolete software this site runs on. I imagine he pays somebody to do it (poorly).

Unless I get full moderation and ban privileges over the my own comment threads, I wouldn't blog here anyway.

Careful what you wish for, but I'd like to see it if I'm being honest. What team's fan base would poop talk players like Ducherov and the Tampon Bay Salary Cap Cheaters though? Oh wait a minute.......thank god you can't ban me!

Yet.

You are in here a lot - do you really think that is true?

If the Leafs had won cups or even gone deep in the playoffs and one could argue the success was helped by favorable officiating or DOPS decisions that benefitted the Leafs I get it but we both know that is just not how things have gone.

The data around how the Leafs are treated by the league seems to tell a different story - someone post that image of suspension by team again where the soft Leafs lead the entire frigging NHL but the media attention the Leafs get is for sure an irritant to many non-leaf fan bases but that's just the reality of how these media organizations see the path to maximize eyes/ears and profits.

If the league really was biased towards the Leafs you would think things like cross checks to the neck in playoffs on a Leaf's player would have been called penalties at at least no?

Listening to Jack Edwards complain about another team's dirty play is the definition of hypocritical (and his voice is so annoying in general).

I wonder if players / teams are allowed to show videos to the DOPS as part of their "meeting" or hearing to try and level set before the decision is made on disciplinary actions.

My guess is no, the DOPS has no interest in being shown how utterly inconsistent and incompetent they are at their jobs but it would be nice if the teams / players could understanding you would have to put some bookends on it (like in the past 24 months or something) because actions and decisions from 15 years ago aren't really relevant as expectations of the league, players and DOPS would have changed so much.

Oh well I guess we will all wait until tomorrow afternoon to see how many more games Reilly get's than he should (because i really believe he will get more than he deserves - dad has to be hard on his own kid if he is coaching to prove there is no bias and all).

Serious question: have you asked to blog?

The blogs are really just a launching point for the discussions. I've always felt that if there is no blogger for a particular team, Ek should just post something the day of a game that lists the starting lineups, injuries, other meaningless crap. It would be enough.

I do not question that Rielly's cross check was inappropriate and unproportionate but deserves a suspension, I also don't know if the intent was to cross check him there or if it rode up but the end results = suspension regardless.

I do love that Rielly did something, (Just wish Greig wasn't such a female dog and acted like he had no idea why anything bad was about to happen to him but then again he's a Sen so what should we expect).

Claude Girioux couldn't even justify Grieg's clapper to the empty net because he knows if it was the other way around he probably does the same thing Reilly did.

Sens fans whining about it makes me laugh, saying what Greig did was fine, but in the next breath whining about the Leafs "over celebrating" goals - pick a lane FFS!

The DOPS is just so insanely unpredictable it's wild. Anyone saying the suspension will be X # of games is taking a shot in the dark. There is no proof that similar incidents get the same suspensions from DOPS - that much is clear. So could be a fine, could be 10 games who knows.....Paros is horrible at his job.

I mean after the DOPS has been around this long shouldn't everyone have a good sense of what an incident they are reviewing is in the ballpark of by now? But no, we have no clue as full on baseball swings to the head do not result in an in person hearing but this does.

The inconsistency in the DOPS is a real black mark on the game right now, it needs to be completely rebuilt with new people - the old guard is not good at their jobs at all.

This is a good post and touches on the elephant in the room explaining why this is such an important case for the lawyers advising the NHL. Note: I wrote the following on the Sens blog.

Need to be really careful in recognizing that sometimes we are talking about completely different things and using false equivalents.

What Ridley Greig did was disrespectful and it triggered anger on the part of Reilly, his team mates, coaches and many Leaf fans. On the other hand, many Sens fans were pleased with what Greig did because it was so over the top and entirely disrespectful.

What Reilly did was entirely different. It was an assault. And, this is shaky legal territory for the NHL. When a player weaponizes his stick to attack another player, it provokes the kind of assault that will draw the attention of legal authorities. Similar incidents have resulted in criminal charges in the past.

This is the reason why the NHL is so vigilant in policing these kind of stick events. They do not want police authorities stepping up to even question on a possibility of an assault. In order to do this they must be super vigilant in demonstrating a strong discipline even in minor assault situations.

Despite what the fans are saying, the lawyers that run the NHL are saying a message needs to be sent.

I'm one of the first to poop talk my own team. I'm pretty fair about it I think.

I'd want to delete political/culture-war posts and ban repeat offenders. I engage in that poop once others start it, but I'd prefer it not start in the first place. It seems like it always does nowadays.

I have said this before and it's a hill I'll die on - the NHL is basically run by Colin Campbell. He is the Senior Executive VP and Director of Hockey Ops which basically runs both the DOPS and the Officials. Campbell got this promotion by lying about his fellow former players in the concussion lawsuit and weaseling his way up the executive chain. In a subsequent trial for wrongful dismissal of an official it was revelated that Campbell had used his position of authority to undermine the credibility of officials, influence decisions and influence the DOPS for or against players he did or did not like - including berating an official for giving his son a penalty in a game. He has repeatedly demonstrated he holds grudges and if you think he doesn't have one for being passed over at the GM of the Leafs in 2008 (a job he thought he was going to get until it went to Burke), then you're fooling yourself.

Colin Campbell is a goddamned poison to the league. He's 71 and the sooner he retires, the better. He's literally an idiot who is a massive part of the old boys club that doesn't understand progressive protection ideas. There's no consistency in this league because it starts at the top and there's no consistent messaging from him and his department. The only time they message people is when there's too much media pressure on them and then they overreact with some dumb knee jerk rule in response.

So how can you know what to expect from the DOPS? You don't, but you can guarantee that it will not be a light penalty for Rielly. And as much as I think Parros is an idiot, I am absolutely positive that his role in this is to keep his boss happy.

- Monkeypunk

Good points but the only thing I will add is as much power at Colin Campbell has you can double that when your talking about Jeremy Jacobs - chairman of the NHL board of governors and the governor for Boston.

He calls the shots on so much it's disgusting.

For all the things people hate about the NHL and blame Bettman for (and I hate Bettman don't get me wrong) the bulk of that anger should go towards Jeremy Jacobs and to a lesser degree the board of governors.

Bettman is a puppet and the spokesperson for that group - he holds very little actual power but is compensated very well for being the face and voice to hate.

He makes quite a bit more than many great players in the league, last year it's reported he made 9.6M in salary.

Maybe Rielly gets lucky and the DOPS wheel of discipline lands on zero games like it did for this fortunate Habs D man who tried to wrap his stick around Waybe Simmonds neck?

The hot takes over in the Sens blog are hilarious. Everyone has the 'ya buts' or better yet think Grieg is the next Darcy Tucker and was 100% justified in what he did because reasons!

"Leafs are the softest team in the league" until they aren't and then they are homicidal maniacs just cruising around to hurt people for no reason. There is no in-between! lol

So many hot takes from fans of other teams in here as usual - they come here with no fear of retribution or consequences for spewing their garbage.

someone posted these comments in the Sens blog

humiliated the Leafs.

Ridley Greig became an overnight hero

Greig revealed just how fragile, unreliable and soft this Leaf team has become

Greig slapper was a brilliant message. It said, "we don't respect you." Now, deal with it. Leaf nation and especially Leaf media have gone into full melt down.

Do you want to know why trolls from other teams come on here and make stupid statements, with the sole purpose of riling up Leafs fans?

Because it's so easy, and it works so well.

Quit taking the bait. If everyone would just ignore them, they wouldn't bother coming on here anymore.

It's Internet 101.

I quite understand this. I rarely post on here. This particular poster has rubbed me the wrong way for quite some time. I am willingly taking the bait here.

However, us ignoring them won't ever stop them from posting. It will certainly stop in the continuance of discussion though.
