No great shock, but the NHL rejected the appeal of Morgan Rielly's 5-game suspension. I have no idea on what grounds even the NHLPA thought it would be successful, but you really can't have players going after each other like that after a goal.

That said, full credit to the Maple Leafs for stepping up their game during Rielly's suspension, and winning 4 straight without him in the lineup. That's exactly what a team should do when one of their players take a penalty or suspension for standing up for their team. Meanwhile, the Senators used that time to prove their complete lack of game maturity by ending their longest win streak of the season with losses to 2 of the 3 worst teams in the league. |

Yeah. Rielly deserves 5 AT LEAST. Def surprising how good the leafs are without him (AND TAVARES). Imagine how good Toronto would be if you had a guy like Tavares out and put in a half decent 2/3 center with a D-man like Parayko (in his prime) or Pietrangelo. They are so obviously allocating their $ in a horrible way with their forwards. Marner will want 12M+. How you have 4 of the top 11 highest paid hockey athletes in the world - and not even make a conference finals in over 20 years makes no sense to me (then the fact their all the same position)
FYI, I accidently clicked the flag button instead of quote.... is that bad? Lol |

2:54 left to go in 3rd period. Tied 2-2
I think this is the toughest Sens have played anyone this season.
Overtime!
Well done boys. |

Yup. I'll take that result on the 2nd night of a back to back against one of the premier teams in the league. Good game. And we got some goaltending again.
...... just don't give the fire helmet to a goalie.

Still, 2 of those 3 goals shouldn't have gone in. That first goal on the first shot was real deflating, and the OT goal was also weak. Korpi has zero shut outs on the year because of soft goals against. It's like he can't string 30 saves in a row together, even across games, ever, for anything. |

And let's not forget Timmy's goal.
3 of 4 possible points (.750) against the Florida teams.
Panthers are a legitimate and leading Cup contender. Big, mean and ugly. And, I only say that in the most complementary manner.
Sens need some nasty on their own blue line and, maybe a 2nd line centre with some size and jam...although I thought Pinto played fabulous last night.
If I'm a Cup contender watching last night's game, I'm drooling over the game Tarasenko played. He was a physical presence whenever he was on the ice. The kind of game you would want in a tough physical series where endurance counts almost as much as skill. |
|
|
|
I was happy they battled and battled back.
I'm on the "don't trade Tarasenko" side of things.
I wonder has Ottawa appealed the Pinto--lost pick--decision yet? |

The lost draft pick was due to the non-disclosure of a No Trade Clause in the Dadonov trade to Las Vegas. There is no formal appeals process. It is highly likely that Andlauer has been pushing behind the scenes every chance he gets since he was not the owner at the time of the trade and also because the league never disclosed the gravity of this issue during the purchase process.

New Jersey appealed their forfeiture didn't they? And the penalty of a lost pick was subsequently reduced to being last in the first round in stead. Not great but still something. |

I have wondered about Andlauer seeking cash compensation for the loss of the pick.
Clearly Bettman and the league were negligent in failing to disclose information on specific deliberations that could prove out to be significantly material for all the potential buyers.
If Dorion was misleading the league on the transaction, you know he was also misleading the potential buyers. Bettman must assume some responsibility for the buyers being deceived.
My guess is the punishment is revisited, Dorion is blamed and the loss of a 1st round pick will be amended and becomes a second or third round pick.

Post on Twitter saying Sens are pushing Anaheim hard and leading in trying to trade for Zegras.
Makes no sense to me unless we were talking 3 way. |

Was there an appeals process or just lobbying of Bettman and the league? |

If the Sens were doing a deal with Anaheim, would they not be asking about Gibson?
If the Sens do any kind of deal they will need to send equivalent salary the other way.
Pinto is emphatically playing his way into the #2 centre position.
Who are the players the Sens would be willing to move?
Norris, Korpisalo.......

I like Trevor Zegras. I haven't seen him play enough. Certainly like him over Norris and I think there are trade options there.
With that said - the Michigan goal and Lacrosse style puck on sticks will get you flattened in the playoffs
Do people remember what Kyle Turris was here in Ottawa? Sens need that but consistently over 7-8 years minimum. Sadly, even as a VERY touted prospect, he had about 4-5 seasons as a top 2 center |

Guys, I like Giroux. His effort and leadership is without question what this team needs.
How about this..... what realistic return would you accept for Giroux?
Example - and not saying this would ever happen, but what if it was Giroux + Forsberg to BOS for Jeremy Swayman (I will give one that is more realistic in terms of non divisional trade - just wanted to see how much value people have for Giroux. Do you see him as Palveski - playing very well into his late 30s at this point?) |

Not a chance. Silfverberg is a UFA after the season .... Zegras and Vatrano have no clue how to play defensive hockey. I wouldn't even trade Chabot straight up for all of that mess. We already have too many players like Zegras and Vatrano.
Zegras is just another "me first" type of player. Why else would Anaheim be looking to dump him. He has been a healthy scratch many times this season .... only played 20 games with 7 points and is injured now.
