I give the benefit to the team that actually made the playoffs consistently and made the finals, yes. This core hasn't done poop yet, so no, they don't get the benefit until they can put in some results. 1 playoff appearance (in which they won a whopping one round) in 4 years outside of this one does not scream to be better suited to anything. What they've put together this year is encouraging, but this is one year. They could turn into the Leafs come spring for all we know.
And Boston was not much inferior. They were 7th in the league and Thomas won the Vezina that year. They weren't some scrub team. - NewYorkNuck
I give less credit to a team that had no adversity until the playoffs and then failed multiple times against the same team until finally managing to squeak by and go on a run, only to defeat themselves in the Finals against a Bruins team that was battle tested and had a much harder route to the Finals than the Canucks team. The point is the '11 team was SUPPOSED to win, this team was not even SUPPOSED to be this good. That's the difference, as you say, they won one round in 5 years but with a vastly inferior team around the core whereas the 2011 PT team had considerably higher expectations and failed to live up to them both before and after 2011. |

The bubble thingy doesn't count. That wasn't playoffs with no crowd. - Marwood
All the teams in the playoffs had to deal with it. It was elimination hockey. It was playoffs.

I’m not sure what you guys are even debating.
This years team is over achieving? Yes.
Better than the 2011 team? No.
Built more for the playoffs? Tbd.
-obviously not battle tested at all, but I like our size and mobility on the backend. I think thats an advantage over 2011. |

Lol, sure. Anointing this team as a "much more suited" playoff hockey team (where this all stemmed from) before even playing in the playoffs is putting the cart before the horse. Maybe they will be, maybe they won't. But your prognostications of this team aren't so great – wasn't the bottom supposed to drop out after their beginning of year road losses? – so I'll take the wait and see approach instead of whatever Zellers crystal ball you have |

Scrolling X to see if I can find any report on the Coyotes proposed land acquisition but all I can see is Leaf fans crying about how it's not fair how the Leafs always get treated poorly by the league...it's pretty comical!! |

Pretty much that.
I think the style of play now vs 13 years ago makes the backend debate not really comparable. That D was great for back then, but with the game's speed now it wouldn't be as good. Their size wasn't too bad, most of them 6'+ and 200lbs+ |

Such a weird thing to be angry about
I for one was happy to have something to watch to kill the boredom during lockdown - NorthNuck
Who said I was angry about it?
It killed time but it still was a farce. |

Is this team better than the 2011 version? No, but I think it's way more balanced and they play a style that's much more suited for the playoffs the '11 team was. Let's not forget that the '11 blew a 3-0 lead in the first round against Chicago and had to rely on a bad clear by Chicago in OT in Game 7 for Burrows to 'slay the dragon'. This team also doesn't have a team that was in their head as much as Chicago was in those days since they eliminated Vancouver two years in a row on their way to a Cup win. - DariusKnight
2011 club and roster were pretty special and the additions that Gillis made that year were very very good. At 54-19-9 and 117 points don't think we are gonna see that finish from this roster this season and would have to say this current roster isn't a deep PO team until they get more seasoning but could be wrong. Teams have surprised to be sure. But IMO the 2011 roster was built and seasoned more to go deeper in the PO's. Sure the first round gaffe vs CHI was an issue but good clubs battle through that and they finally did. Sheer Dominance over Nashville and San Jose (a very deep club) showed how they were built for POs.
Now one could argue PO's 'for that time' are much different compared to now and could make a pretty good case for that...however this current roster has shown an excellent 'reg season' status but how that will translate to PO's remains to be seen.
That 2011 club was unreal and I don't get that sense with this roster just yet. |

Actually the bubble Hockey during the covid thingy was pretty tough. Play in round plus the full four rounds. Cup champs had to technically win 5 rounds that year. Very tough. Canucks beat Minny, Cup champs STL then Vegas to 7 games. Technically three rounds. |
