A much needed day off/travel day and then a night game against Chicago. They just keep grinding out points this season. |
|
|
|
This group just keeps plugging away, Pouty with 2 bad turnovers in the defensiveve zone, no one even panicked, Caps had some pressure on both times, Demko makes a couple saves, puck controlled by team and cleared out of zone.
It was impressive because no one started running around, they all appeared calm, covered their check/zone.
Well done boys. |

Ya they've just been racking them up. No long losing streaks. Good ability to rebound game-to-game.
They're operating just a hair under their President's Trophy/Cup final season points per game... as good as they've been I'm not sure in my mind I would stack this team up against that team though. Maybe it's expectations? This being the first year they're actually good? They don't seem as dominant as that team. |

The boys looked tired, Demko looked gassed. At one point in the third Myers turned the puck over about 4 or 5 times trying to clear the zone, he was so tired, I thought for sure the Caps were going to score....but they didn't. |

It's probably a good thing that they were playing against the 3rd lowest scoring team in the league. |

It's hard to believe last years Canucks had 83 points total for the year, this year they're already at 76 points and there's 30 games or so left. In my mind that 2011 team is one of the most dominant teams in the past 20 years, probably top ten best teams over that timeframe anyway...they were so good. |

That Canucks team had a points percentage of .713 and was a + 77 in goals for/goals against, this version is at .717 and a + 56.
Fairly similar

The 2011 team was better than this one overall for sure. The one thing that team lacked was a Quinn Hughes though. Other than Demko(best goalie in the league), he's the biggest X factor in the team winning so many games this year. |

Is this team better than the 2011 version? No, but I think it's way more balanced and they play a style that's much more suited for the playoffs the '11 team was. Let's not forget that the '11 blew a 3-0 lead in the first round against Chicago and had to rely on a bad clear by Chicago in OT in Game 7 for Burrows to 'slay the dragon'. This team also doesn't have a team that was in their head as much as Chicago was in those days since they eliminated Vancouver two years in a row on their way to a Cup win. |

This team has more general toughness vs the 2011 team's rattiness |

I think that's a pretty far fetched thing to say at this moment. This team hasn't won or had the opportunity to play any playoff games. The other team went to game 7 of the Finals. I think their style was suited enough for the playoffs based off the evidence lol |

2020 they did, and got to the second round with this core (minus Lindholm/Hronek) and took Vegas who went to the Finals to the limit so no, it's not farfetched. Also, the '11 team had Chicago in their head for 3 years and almost blew a 3-0 series lead and had to rely on luck in OT to finally break through to get to the Finals. |

Should be an easy two points in Chicago, but it probably won't be, which will drive Bloated to another evil Canucks post. |

Chicago is the 2nd lowest scoring team in the league, just above the Sharks and below the Caps.
Should be a cakewalk. |

It's such a bizarre take to completely discount a sporting event that happened simply because there weren't people in the stands |

I honestly can't believe that actual nhl coaches play Myers the 3rd most of all the defensemen this team has. They need to fire the coaches to appease the fans/experts. |

So this team is "much more suited" for the playoffs because they won one actual round years ago (with a much different line up and much different playing style), compared to the team that went to the actual finals? Ya man not buying it.
Pretty funny you're giving every benefit to this unproven team, and casting doubt on the team that actually did it. Great, they took Vegas to the brink, but you're wrong as Vegas didn't make it to the finals. So they lost to a team who lost to a team who lost to the cup winners. Compared to a team who took the actual cup winners to the brink.
We'll see come this spring if this team is actually better suited or not – and the only way they best the other team is by winning the cup. |
