At one point in the last game, Zary took some shifts with Backs and Mange, which got me thinking......Coleman, with some Salary retianed, would garner a pretty decent return.
I know Coleman is great in the room but I would not blame him if he does not want to go through a retool. - DuranDuran
I think he has 3 more years after this one, that would be a lot of retention. I see Kuzmenko, Mangiapani and Sharangovich have 1 more year left. I could see them shopping 2 of those guys next trade deadline.
Flames could get a lot faster in the next couple years. |

Too small to be a full time goalie in today's NHL of big goaltenders. - LordHumungous
He's actually an inch taller than Saros. Kid is 22, had dominated WHL for consecutive years & then dominated AHL in consecutive years. NHL toughest league in the world. Kid is very talented, will have to learn how to succeed in NHL now. He's had 7 NHL games holy smokes
He'll be fine. |

Ok Connie, it’s time to pull the trigger. I need something Flames to get excited about.
Markstrom 50% retained to NJ for Holtz and a 1st
Tanev 50% retained to the Oilers for Broberg and a 1st
Hanifin extended to Florida for Lundell and a 1st
Get er done! - K-man25
I could live with that! If retaining 50% on Markstrom probably will need to add some for the retention.

Right now we sit with the 9th oa pick according to win %, with the possibility of moving up still. Lottery luck and a helping hand from Gary could set us up ala Leafs and Oilers.

Flames aren't retaining on Markstrom for 2 more years, especially not 3M.
No one is giving up a top prospect plus a first for Tanev at any cost, especially when the rumored return is a 2nd +.
Florida doesn't have a first until 26. And they don't have the cap to take on any bigger contract going forward. He's a luxury they can't afford. Only about 30M to sign 12 players for next year. Not gonna be pretty. |

Hey don’t let facts get in the way of dreams.
Who says they’re not retaining on Markstrom, that was the rumoured stall on the original trade.
Rumour was a lot more for Tanev to the Oilers, I’m sure if the Flames only wanted a 2nd he’d be gobbled up by now.
If not Florida then another young center and a 1st for Hanifin.

He’s no McDavid or Mathew’s but he’s the top ranked prospect in the draft which is something the Flames have nether had. It’s not like we had 4 -1st over alls to build a team around. |

The way I heard it and it makes sense is the principle parts of the trade with NJ were agreed to but they expected retention and the Flames weren't willing to because of the term left on his contract and in the NHL you can't retain for just 1 season. Only rumor I heard about Tanev to Edmonton included Ceci going back to Calgary so extra would be required to eat that contract. The reports I have heard is Calgary expects a 2nd and a prospect. Toronto doesn't have a 2nd so the Flames are hoping Tre gets desperate and offers his 1st plus for Tanev. Doubt it happens.

Yakupov, DiPietro, Daigle, and Stepan were 1sts too. With Calgary's 1st round draft history they would probably screw up the McDavid draft. How are Jankowski, Poirier, Klimchuk, Erixon, and Neimisz doing these days? |

Daniel Tkaczuk, Rico Fata, Oleg Saprykin, Brent Kahn, Chuck Kobasew, Eric Nystrom, Dion Phanuef, Chris Chucko, Matt Pelech, Leland Irving, Michael Backlund, Greg Nemisz, Tim Erixon, Sven Baertschi, Mark Jankowski, Morgan Klimchuk, Emile Poirier, Sean Monahan, Sam Bennett, Matthew Tkachuk, Juuso Valikmaki, Jakob Pelletier, Connor Zary, Matt Coronato, and Samuel Honzek. Those are all the Flames 1st round picks since 97. I'd say you can't judge about 4 of them and they hit on about 7 of them. That makes 14 failures. Not really reaching. |

Holy fck! You are comparing those late 1st round picks to a #1 overall??? What makes it worse is that in each of those years the Oilers 2nd rounders were almost like having a late 1st. Should we start comparing 2nd rounders? K-Man was right, you're better than this post, you should probably delete it |

Actually if you look into it the Oilers don't have 2nd round picks often. Beau Akey was taken in the 2nd this most recent draft. Lavoie in 19 and he is trending towards an NHL career. Ryan McLeod and Olivier Rodrigue in 18 and McLoed is already a full timer and Rodrigue has comparable stats in the AHL to Wolf this year. Then they only have 1 pick in 5 years, Tyler Benson in 16 (Bust). |
