Sorry Leaf fans,
This is one of those times when playing in the biggest hockey market is not beneficial
If the crosscheck was not made into such a spectacle by the media, the league would probably not come down as hard on Reilly.
I expect him to get more games than Andersson got for his earlier this season.
Tanev will look good in Blue. |

I don’t think many Leafs fans care about Rielly’s suspension.
Sure, we’ll complain about the length of it being too long, but Rielly being absent won’t bother anyone.
It’ll give this team a jolt I think. If they lose tonight, Keefe is either going to be fired up, or fired. Either way it should be entertaining. If they win, then the narrative will be “Leafs won without Rielly, they’re rallying around him” etc… |

This is the way.

If “the way” is to act like a classless POS then You have grabbed a great screen shot to illustrate that.
Whatever it takes to win I guess eh?
Grab a guy who has 2 sticks in his hand as he’s cleaning up after the scrum breaks up (on a legal hit I might add) and start throwing punches into his face - such brave and respectful leadership.
Are the punches from Stamkos while Matthews was on the ice also part of “the way”?
Stamkos is smart though I’ll give him that - he grabbed a guy who doesn't fight AND had no reason to expect to have to and caught him off guard. AND took the Leafs biggest offensive threat off the ice vs the Leafs going on the Power play with Matthews.
Cowardly / classless but smart.
And let’s not kid ourselves here, if this had happened the other way all the trolls would be in here calling for a Leaf suspension.
You probably would have been leading the charge as a Tampa fan.
I don’t subscribe to the “win at all costs” mantra to me it cheapens the win.
I’m sure others will run to point out teams like Boston and Tampa have no problem with it and have had success so yes it works sometimes.
Here is the video in case anyone has forgotten the full incident and is as enamored with the one still frame as the resident Tampa fan is.

Always trying to win the “right way” whatever tf that means is why the Leafs never win in the playoffs.
They’d rather whine about the other team being mean, and the refs are unfair..

Yep.
Every year we hear “this team hasn’t faced any adversity yet this year, so they’re not ready for the playoffs.” I’m not sure I agree with that philosophy entirely, but maybe this will be the adversity they need?
I kinda hope they go on a losing streak.. really send some shockwaves throughout the organization. Can’t see Shanny sticking around if they miss the playoffs.. |

I know this is HB so I have to let go of people having level-headed takes. But absolutely nobody said Dubas was a genius incapable of making mistakes. He had some growing pains and made mistakes, but I think the biggest front office issue was Shanny firing Dubas right after he finally admitted the core wasn't working. Last year was the year he'd seen enough and was ready for change this year. And Shanny said nope, we're keeping the core together.
& Lou made an absolute Mid team on the Island for the past 4 years. He's not good and irrelevant to Dubas - UsernameUnknown
So very much this.
You can't necessarily say that Dubas was the best choice but you can say that keeping Lou wasn't the answer. And before anyone jumps on the train - it also wasn't Hunter. If they wanted to go looking outside - fine - but what had Lou done here? He ran two drafts as the first overall pick and as the 17th.
Drafted Matthews, whiffed on Korshkov, got Grundstrom who was used as trade fodder for Muzzin and drafted Woll - who could be good. The next year he got Liljegren and nothing. So . . . he didn't draft Laine over Matthews - I guess that was good, but obvious.
He made some nice trades - acquiring Andersen for a 1st & 2nd (Steel & Comtois); trading Winnick for a 2nd (Grundstrom); trading Polak and Spaling for 2 2nds (1 used to get Andersen, and the other drafted Durzi udner Dubas); and while it ultimately didn't do much, he dumped Phaneuf on the Sens and did get a 2nd to waste (Rasanen). He actually didn't really lose any - just small moves here and there.
The real complaints with Lou probably come in the form of Marleau, Zaitsev, Martin and Bernier - but you could possibly offset those complaints by noting the decent bridge contracts he managed on Hyman, Rielly and Kadri.
Overall Lou was a net positive but also hasn't accomplished anything in over 20 years.

Pretty sure Leafs have a good record without Rielly, as they also do when other core players have been injured. |

Aren’t you the unemployed loser bragging about how you live off EI and get free pot from the government?
Is that what the opposite of snowflake looks like?
