"The penalty came as a result of Greig firing a slap shot at the empty net from point-blank range as an exclamation point to the Sens winning over the Leafs for the third time in four games. "
This is the most ridiculous statement ever...The penalty was in no way shape or form the result of Greig firing a slap shot into an empty net. The penalty came as a result of O'Reilly losing all semblance of self-control and cross-checking Greig above the shoulders...
While it may have been poor form, what Grieg did was legal and within the context of the game. What O'Reilly did was not...and it was done with intent to injure. No other way top spin that. If he was that upset about it, why didn't he (and his teammates) address it during the previous 58+ minutes of the game by playing better and winning the game?
Dale Hunter got 21 games (into the next season) for a similar move on Pierre Turgeon after Turgeon scored the game-winning...in a playoff elimination game...if O'Reilly gets half that, he'll be getting off light. |

If youāre going to act like a know it all you should try and comment about the correct player.
He also went for the shoulder, it unfortunately hit the shoulder pad but immediately slid up the shoulder pad into the guys head, and then Ottawa started the scrap.
The end.

The Matthews' example isn't a great comparison. They were trading shots and the play was on going.
Perrron is the better comparable, lots of similarities. I think 6 games is the end result. But league discipline is a joke so who knows. |

There's no consistency so it's a fools game to pick your favourite comparable.
Perron's circumstances were similar but it was much more violent contact. 6 games.
Chaisson crosscheck on Vesey after the whistle might be a good example. 1 game.
It's (frank)ed trying to guess. He'll get 5-6. Leafs will appeal. Everyone will obsess about it all and the Leafs will continue to make the world go round.

Kraken losing again.
If Muzzin was 1st, Durzi and Grundstrom ...hypothetically would we be cool with a 1st, Neimela, and something for Larsson? |

Pretty spendy...
Try and make it bigger and get a F back also that really helps bottom 6 and pushes RR out ā¦even with Kampf & Jarncock coming back - |

How would they fit him in cap wise? I like his size, game, and that heās a rightie, but even if they could get 50% retained how do they fit in $2 million? |

Doesn't matter what he gets.
Maybe 2 for the crosscheck and 4 for being stupid?
Cannot put yourself and your team in that position. Plenty of ways to be tough without weaponizing your equipment, regardless of shoulder to chin or direct hit.
Wonder if we could bring Klingberg back for the powerplay. He's probably OK now. |

Love the avatar. Makes me laugh every time.
As far as the suspension goes, Iām not a fan of either team. However, I agree with the statement that the consistency in the DoPS is sorely lacking.
Yes, it was Douchebag move for the slapper into the net, but laying a cross heck on the guy is NEVER a good thing. I also agree he may have been aiming for the shoulder to send a message, butā¦.whatever his intent, his check rode up the shoulder, and into his jaw. He should know better. If it was me in DoPS, it would have been 3. Reilly doesnāt have a history of this , so that must factor into the punishment.
Hereās my real issue: Get rid of the Fāing instigator penalty, and escalating fines/suspensions. He could then have dropped the gloves, and the boys will have settled it, the way hockey used to be. The way it is now, invites this behavior, as there is almost no outlet for players to police themselves. So weasel players get away with cheap shots, etc. without answering for it. That sucks! Answer for your sh!t, and man up, or get your ass a good beatdown.
Solves many of these issues, creates some REAL rivalries, and makes for a much more compelling, and interesting game. No one stays in on a Friday or Saturday evening for a game anymore. The NHL is losing its core, to try and gain the casual fan. Those casuals arenāt paying the bills!
Bring back hockey the way it should be, and this would never have happened! |

Leafs have ~4+M in cap space once the roster shakes out b/c they're carrying so many (26) bodies.
You're going to have to trust me b/c people are probably sick of me doing the math. |
