C'mon Sirsy ...you're the king of wanting big names. Gotta give to get. You can put Minten in instead if you'd like. You aren't getting a real top4 guy with term without a big name prospect. |

Leafs have ~4+M in cap space once the roster shakes out b/c they're carrying so many (26) bodies.
You're going to have to trust me b/c people are probably sick of me doing the math. - The Law
I can do the math as well but who can they ship down to open up space that does not need to clear waivers? That’s the hiccup. |

Love the avatar. Makes me laugh every time.
As far as the suspension goes, I’m not a fan of either team. However, I agree with the statement that the consistency in the DoPS is sorely lacking.
Yes, it was Douchebag move for the slapper into the net, but laying a cross heck on the guy is NEVER a good thing. I also agree he may have been aiming for the shoulder to send a message, but….whatever his intent, his check rode up the shoulder, and into his jaw. He should know better. If it was me in DoPS, it would have been 3. Reilly doesn’t have a history of this , so that must factor into the punishment.
Here’s my real issue: Get rid of the F’ing instigator penalty, and escalating fines/suspensions. He could then have dropped the gloves, and the boys will have settled it, the way hockey used to be. The way it is now, invites this behavior, as there is almost no outlet for players to police themselves. So weasel players get away with cheap shots, etc. without answering for it. That sucks! Answer for your sh!t, and man up, or get your ass a good beatdown.
Solves many of these issues, creates some REAL rivalries, and makes for a much more compelling, and interesting game. No one stays in on a Friday or Saturday evening for a game anymore. The NHL is losing its core, to try and gain the casual fan. Those casuals aren’t paying the bills!
Bring back hockey the way it should be, and this would never have happened! - Hokeeguy9
Good take ...I like it. I'd shave my balls for that answer every time. |

They're carrying 26 (without including the big 3 LTIR's)...the limit is 23. So if they're going to add they have to reduce the roster by 3, 4 ...5. Each drop equates to close to a milly.
And if they need cap space to add a real blue liner they aren't going to hesitate putting some combo of Lajoie, Lagersson, McMann, Reaves, etc.. on waivers. |

Any time you use your stick as a weapon and hit someone in the head, the suspension should start at five games. I'd even be fine with a five game suspension any time you use your stick as a weapon. Get it out of the game.
Hockey is the only non-combat sport where you can punch someone and not really get panalized for it. Take advantage of it. Look at what Gudbranson got, even though it was probably worse than what Reilly did. |

You could pretty much say this for regular, everyday life, just substitute "Lawyer saturation" with Instigator Rule.

There are literally GMs who wait to see what team breaks first and tries to send UFA guys through waivers at this time of year (everyone you mentioned btw). The only goalie they got who can is now on LTIR and will be off of it once they no longer need Lajoie as an emergency callup and he’ll be sent down only gaining a little more than $8K in cap space.
I honestly do not expect any big moves this year, unless there is a desire for a defence position’s change in style but not cost I simply don’t see anything notable happening. |

Him not dropping the stick was literally to avoid a fighting suspension nowadays.
My guess is he’s fined and quietly suspended for one game (the game he misses tomorrow for having to be in NY). They waited 3 days for this meeting and my guess the league doesn’t want to suspend an all star from a week and half ago. Is it right? Probably not. Is it the way the league seems to function? Yup. |

If you’re going to act like a know it all you should try and comment about the correct player.
He also went for the shoulder, it unfortunately hit the shoulder pad but immediately slid up the shoulder pad into the guys head, and then Ottawa started the scrap.
The end. - Dozzer
Let alone the Turgeon hit, put Tuegeon out for the season and part of the next season.

Initial contact was the shoulder. He gets one game for that and another because he plays for the Leafs. So 2 games total. Move on. |

Kind of hoping that they fine him and don’t suspend him since he’ll miss tomorrow’s game anyways allowing their recent all-star to maintain his 10 and a half year clean record in the league. Basically a one game suspension without technically being suspended. - somedumbleaffan
He crosschecked a guy to the head for scoring a goal.....he will get at least 6 games. |

From NHL.com:
www.nhl.com/news/maple-le...earing-with-player-safety
If the infraction might require a suspension of six games or more, the offending player is offered the opportunity to an in-person hearing. In this case, the player remains suspended until the hearing takes place. If the player waives his right to an in-person hearing, the hearing will be conducted by phone. |

Sorry but while boston fans are the most annoying, Leaf fans are the most whiny.
Had the shoe been on the other foot and someone even looked funny at Mathews or messed up Willie Stiles hair...Leaf Nation, including the juvenile media coverage, would be calling for lifetime bans.
It might be hard to understand, but stick infractions, like this one are a slippery slope. They will all be cracked down on hard, otherwise it will invite more of the same, which will eventually lead to a serious injury.
Reilly could have accomplished his objective with a cross check to the side of the ribs and a glove face wash. Instead you lose your most valuable guy for 5 games.
Point the finger at him and his lack of discipline. Likely costs team valuable standings points. |

The shoe wouldnt have been on the other foot because no one would have been dumb enough to slap shot it into an empty net with 5 seconds left in the game.
And dont give this bs that the league is cracking down on stick infractions, we just saw trouba two hand a guy in the head.
(frank) off, you know thats bs. |

Leafs are undisciplined fragile pussies, Reilly deserves the 6-8 games for his cowardly actions because their feelings were hurt because a puck was shot too hard into netting? Explains the drought going back to 1967-embarrassing organization… - Garys
Yikes! Bad idea my guy, these soft served Canadians are quite void of reality, have you seen who they have running their country?
Best to leave them to their MAID, how sad they have to wait until 2027 to be slaughtered by their loving and progressive government.
