You think Torts is a bad coach? No one expected the flyers to contend for a playoff spot this year, and the reason they are is torts. Even if they dont make the playoffs, i think everyone would agree they are playing better than anyone thought.

Torts == Jack Adams!

Scott Laughton just building up that trade value.

Thought Walker was noticeable as well.

Oh my goodness, what am I going to do? Lol

The list of players that Tortorella has mishandled include Frost, York, Cates, Zamula and Brink. He has devalued players such as Hayes and Angelo.

- MJL

how has he mishandled Cates, York, Brink, and Zamula. Please provide some details cliff not just your statement.

They say he is ramping it up and should be ready for opening night

That would be awesome. Torts would be going with 10F/8D.

I don't think so.

I feel someone will give a strong offer for him. Plus with Poehling being signed, I just don't see a huge need for Laughton moving forward.

Wow are you thick! What I said is Frost has to generate scoring chances consistently to stay in this league, and that I thought he needed to shoot more and defer less. Obviously if Frost plays more assertively and attacks the center of the ice more, he will generate more scoring chances and thus score more points (goals or assists, it does not matter).
- jd250

No you said he needs to be on the score sheet to stay in the line up

He basically went 10F/6D last night. Didn't watch so not sure what Olle and Zamula did to end up in his dog house.

Torts is lucky?? What a joke!

You absolutely have no clue what you are talking about here. The job of a coach is to teach the player to play the right way, and once a coach sees that happen consistently then and only then is trust established. That is why TK can make mistake after mistake and still play 20 minutes a night, because the coach trusts him and knows TK plays the right way. There is a difference between playing the right way and making mistakes, and playing the wrong way and making mistakes. As long as Frost keeps playing an assertively, he will make mistakes like we all do, but he will have no need to look over his shoulder.

- jd250

Torts is lucky he didn't lose the player...many thought Frost would demand a trade.

Frost has always had the skill, and has produced at every level. His adjustment, offset by a serious injury plus Covid was slowed, and the player took a while to properly adjust to the NHL. I don't think that Torts is the main reason for Frost playing like he has been. He just needs the ice time. Which is what my biggest gripe with Torts has been all year..his usage of players and their ice times. He has overplayed some players as much as he has underplayed others.

But yes, I do feel Torts is lucky he didn't lose Frost.

I didn't say Frost was more physical than Konecny. What are you talking about?

you sure were implying it by putting up the stats.

Weird take considering Abreu has a HOF case. I liked Jake as a player, sadly concussions killed his post-Flyers career.

wow...really? So rude..there really is no need for that...for the record, been married to my wife for 27 years...just saying.

It was in response to:

It was against his favorite punching bag of a team. Let's see what he does in Toronto on Thursday. He always seems to follow up a dynamic game with a dud. More consistency is needed against the big boys of the league.
- Phillywhiteout

So, no, not a solo post, and yes, a response to a post from the current thread we are on.

Interestingly, Frost is putting up points at a higher rate this year than last. (.604 ppg to .567 ppg)

Gotcha. Still don't think Torts likes him as a player so he's got a short leash anyway.

I don't know.

Using Buffalo as a hypothetical since they seem to have been mentioned, I would take a one for one in Krebs for Laughton possibly.

If your not getting a player, then I could see a playoff team offering something like a 1st and 3rd for him.

But I don't know.

last year he had 46 pts in 81 games. i think he is on pace for similar numbers this year if he played a full 82. like 48-50 points. as he is rolling better now maybe more, especially if he is playing with tk or farabee.

If you were even a tad objective about Torts in general I'd consider your position, but you don't know the coach, at all. Judging by your comments you are lost in a time warp thinking Torts is Buddy Ryan. He is far more progressive than you give him credit for and the proof is on the ice. There is no greater factual data than the way they are playing on the ice right now and Frost is literally dancing with the puck. He was not doing that before his meeting. He just wasnt. Hate to burst your agenda bubble, but signs point back to the coach here. I dont want kids scratched in front of grandmom and I dont think scratching Frost for weeks at a time is the way to go, but he has never played better than the way he is playing right now. Also, its far different than last year when games meant 0. They are in a real playoff race right now and he is leading. Not too different than the way G started to evolve in 2011. The kid has turned the corner. There is a reason why he was not canned when Jones and Briere took over.

In recent games
