You said yesterday that is why they are GMs and we are fans. If you can get a big guy like him and change his game to play more of a stay at home guy, who can be physical with Foote coaching him, you weigh the options.
The difference between Mikheyev's cap hit and Risto is 400 K and one extra year.
Look what Foote has done with Juulsen and even Myers. - VANTEL
Why not just trade less assets for a stay at home D who has a smaller cap hit rather than hoping you can reshape a 29y/o with terrible habits and 3 more years on his contract? It's a long shot to turn Risto into a different player before the playoffs start. Why not try to resign Myers for that kind of salary and let go of the Risto dream? Not that it's my desire but I'd take Myers over Risto moving forward. Might be a smaller cap hit as well. I could see Myers taking 4m per to stay here under the current coaches and success.

I don't really buy the Risto is a bad D. Every game I have ever watched him play he has been a positive. He does a lot of things well. I had heard the same comments about Zadorov and Parayko. I don't buy it.
Players as they get older change their game. Myers will want probably four years more or at the least three he is probably going to get 4 mil per also. Then you are still stuck with Mikheyev who is a five mil player approx. Total 9 mil for the two.
If You can move Mik and fill the RHD question for a number of years , I would look at all the angles.
Myers and Mik for the next three years or use the same cap room and re-sign Dakota Blueger and acquire Risto instead of Myers.? |

Fair enough. I think this is more of a case of what you want rather than what the Canucks want though.

Depending on who you listen to there was reports coming from insiders including Friedman that there definitely has been talks, or Rick D that there hasn't.
I am not as big of a fan of Risto as some think but I would be fine with adding him also.

Big financial commitment for a mediocre player, but I do trust this management if they think they can turn him around. Just don’t see it imo, he’s never been good defensively don’t see that changing. |

There are only so many big RHD to go around and every year the price is going up. If Canucks want big RHD the options are limited.
Do you bring back Myers at 4 mil for three more years? Again if you can swap Mik for Risto then the cost difference is 400K.

I would choose a player that can defend. Risto and Myers both struggle to defend well. |

JR said today? We can still make big moves.
Booner this is now me wishful thinking. Trade Risto for Mik, leave Risto on LTIR save five mil in cap , bring him back for playoffs.
Juulsen is playing very well put Soucy on LTIR for the rest of the year 8 mil plus for a rental.
I forgot Mik salary would come off also making it 12 mil of cap at TDL |

Risto game this year has been better than it ever has been. I've seen his game compared to Zadorov's. Goofy to pay 5.1M a year to a D that plays 16 minutes a night.

I'm scrolling through the search results on EF's Risto rumors. None of these show EF saying there has definitely been talks between the Canucks and Flyers. His comment "linked" has come up a few times. So chatter in the rumor mill more or less. Maybe I'm missing something? Also, he says Flyers are not eager to trade him... that could have changed but on page one, I havent seen it. |

I think if they move Miky, the main focus would be to improve the forward group in the top 6. A depth D and F could still be added...
Watch Miky score tonight by the way... heard it here first.
JR's comment on a big move... I've been saying... if they are all in, then everything is on the table including their best prospects. So the question is... are they all in or not?

If we're gonna trade with Philly, Risto would be the last D I would target.
Walker and Seeler are much better options imo but I can't see Philly trading these guys considering their current playoff position
Joel Edmunson, Schultz, Bogosian would be a decent value/depth D
Dumoulin could be a 5/6 target that would solve not being able to/or avoiding resigning Zadorov
Personally I'd like it if they went after Durzi - RFA, he could be Coles replacement |

Oilers can't take on Markstrom's salary let alone bring in some more help for PO's. Unless the Flames took Jack Campbell back in return lol |

They have Mik playing 4 th line and RT has called him out. I think his time is coming to an end. RT twice today has mentioned Bains. I think we are looking at Mik's replacement.
I think they will be all in especially with so many UFAs and RFAs next year.
I don't think the injury to Guentzel or Risto matters unless it is a season ending injury including playoffs. |

There is always a way to make it work. Skinner Campbell Broberg a first and Halloway for Marky

If they traded him it is most likely going to be selling him at his lowest value right now much like Garland and Boeser last year when you couldn't give them away for free.
The 32 thoughts have Risto listed as the 27 th potential trades to Van Tor CGY
Friedman was talking on HNIC where I believe he first mentioned that Middlestadt was being shopped and Risto. Regardless who or what was said if you look up Rist Trade Rumors there are articles from Hockey News and comments about the 32 Thoughts crowd. None of it is really important of who said exactly what but more of the fact that Rick D dismissed it and others said there was talks. Just a mater of who you believe.

Myth. Coaches don't put players who can't defend on the PK. They also don't get much ice time in the dying minutes of games. |

I love Durzi. A bit undersized but feisty. Some offensive punch and a smart puck mover. I doubt he takes a cheap contract like Cole's though. |

This is a huge detail for teams looking at UFAs this year. The price is going to be high with the cap going up. This is why I think teams will be looking for trades of players with term and a cap of around 4 to 5 mil.

I'm still going through the EF comments in the search results on the Canucks and Risto. Even in his 32 thoughts he hasnt said there was definitely talks. Some of the headlines are saying he poured cold water on it. People are asking him what he thinks based on their speculation is whats happening. He thinks they are not eager to move him unless there is a 1st rounder going their way. No thanks.
