Going way back to the 79's the Flyers did it twice, more recently, the Bruins did it in 2011, the Blues in 2019 and Vegas last season. - Reubenkincade
Vegas best players are Eichel, Stone, Marchessault, Theodore and Petro. Not exactly a wrecking crew there bud

Which is why those GM's are out of work. I'm not trying to say they never sign them to bad contracts, I'm trying to say as a GM your job is to get some good value contracts. Take Tom Fitzgerald in Jersey, a lot of monkeys said that was way too much now it's one of the best contracts in the league. That's a good GM doing a good job. The above contracts are the opposite. Donkey's said Eichel was too much money, he lead the team to a cup. |

I just like bugging Reuby because of his bias towards a player who I think is one of the best draft picks in Canucks history. I get the bias on his game, he falls down a lot, he's not strong on puck, he's not MacKinnon or Crosby, but you have to appreciate his game and his ability to put up points. He thinks the game very well, which is his greatest weapon.
I hate his giveaways, but it's part and parcel for skilled offensive players, trying to be creative with the puck, means you turn it over a lot trying to create offense. Kucherov is #1 in turnovers this year and he's also leading the league in scoring.

Petey has 21 giveaways on the season. Kucherov has 3 times that.
Some just want perfect all the time. He's tied for 1st in GWG this year with Reinhart.
Petey can get stronger and will get stronger, that's not a hard trait to figure out. |

That's exactly my point. His contract is based on his earlier development seasons. Petey's will be based on seasons in his prime(this and last season).
Imagine what Hughes would get if he was a FA this summer... - boonerbuck

For every good long term contract there are 15 bad ones. Most GMs are idiots also other than the fact they make good money. Almost every team has contracts that they are trying to move. Most of those GMs are still employed.

Agree to disagree on this one. I think you'd be hard pressed to find 15 bad contract, let alone a ratio anywhere close to that. Most good players are signed to long-term contracts.

On another note I find it kind of funny that the biggest advocates saying at the beginning of the year that the PDO was not sustainable, are the ones now predicting Petey to score 100 points. |

Ya I think that ratio is from the land of make believe. That would mean that every team that has one good long term contract, 2/3 of the rest of their lineup would be bad long term contracts.
Edit: Hughes and Demko both good... so the rest of the roster plus some would have to be bad. |

That's how bad your takes are, you don't know the difference between 1974 and 2024, plus you disrespect the skill of a HHOF'er like Patrice Bergeron as well as Chara and Marchand, who'll be one of very few who played to ever score 1000+ points.
Same goes for the Blues and Knights, their top guys were anything but plumbers, they were/are skilled two-way forwards and Pietrangelo & Stone will probably end of in the Hall of Fame. Jack Eichel probably gets to 1000 points too, if he can stay healthy.
PS: I'm getting paid $100 USD an hour to do this.... |

This is a joke right? Mackinnons defensive metrics are right there with Crosby, should never be uttered in the same category as the one-dimensional players. - neem55
Is that a personal opinion?
For facts
Crosby 11 times out of 18 seasons has been voted in for the Selke. Only 2 of them were outside the top 20. Including some top 10s. Voted for in the last 9 out of 10 years also.
In 10 seasons Mackinnon has had selke votes twice and both outside the top 20.

Hronek long-term is what I'd like to see more journalists ask management. Clearly Petey is going to wait, but sign this guy already!

Most good players are signed when they are having career years. Then reality sets in and you try to move players like Parako Tarensnko Kopitar even shorter terms like Kuzmenko Mikheyev Pearson. Trust me every team has contracts they want to move. You don't think the Leafs want to get rid of Reaves?

Two out of three guys you mentioned are excellent players. Tarasenko is on a one year deal. Mihkeyev isn't even the worst contract on the team, luckily Myers is out this year and we can not be under that albatross. Mikhayev was a three year deal exactly long-term, same with Reaves.
