Before this season, considering how the Canucks played, it almost looked likely Pettersson was going to sign a 1 year deal and get out as a UFA or traded before then.

After they finally play a good season, maybe he'll stick around after all. But it'll cost them.

I do not see the Habs being able to pull off this type of deal before the TDL.

But perhaps what the Sabres want in return changes in the off-season, if they still have Mittelstadt in their organization and want to trade him.

they need help on D, they are not making the playoffs this year, they will want a assets ready to make the jump.

I honestly have no idea what HuGo will go after and what the price will be. If they get some luck and win the lottery and are able to draft 1st or 2nd and are able to draft Celebrini or Lindstrom, they would be set at center, a trade for another forward would be for a winger with size, as Brian Burke would say...pugnacity, testosterone, truculence and belligerence, someone who can play in the top 6 with those qualities

Dunno.

Seems like they got some nice young talent on the team and just need to work on depth to take the next step. But you don't trade one of your best players for depth, so they must be looking for something specific.
