Do you think there’s some friction between KA and Donnie? I’ve always felt like they are on the page.
Pounding the table for greenway aside, you wonder whether or not they were in agreement on benson staying, among other curious moves?
Maybe they aren’t in this together, and Donnie does get fired separately and it’s not a full house cleaning - Boss34
You used to applaud KA for managing generally. That's saying Donnie is making the roster decisions, Analytics + Scouting are splitting draft picks, and KA is trying to keep everyone happy.
Why would there be friction between Kev and Donnie? Donnie is in charge. The friction should be with Donnie/KA dismissing analytics.

The only reason the Pegulas are "successful" NFL owners is because the NFL is very good at keeping the owners in line. Unless you're Robert Kraft or Jerry Jones, the mandate is "your job is to write checks and let the adults handle the things that matter". The NHL lets owners like the Pegulas treat their franchises like a toy, and this is the result you get. - buffalofan19

You really think free agency falls on the coach?
Signing Clifton / ej seems more of a KA move
I imagine they have conversations about guys like benson and Levi between Donnie and KA, then KA does what he feels is best ?
I could be wrong? KA definitely delegates authority |

That's the thing about letting the adults handle the things that matter. Adults can figure out how to navigate through it.
Setting the snark aside for a minute, I do expect a bit of a rough season for the Bills next season, but it's a league where a franchise quarterback can mask a lot of deficiencies. |

the gm locked this core up and IMO they have been playing together long enough where the 2nd youngest team in the league goes out the window for excuses

Yup.
Age, after a couple season played should go out the window. Then it is experiemce, no matter the age.
Similar to mental acuity vs age...it isn't the age that is the issue. |

Yes, I think Donnie wanted both. I'm sure Donnie wanted Benson too. Levi might be on KA. That's just more KA giving in to the player in an unprecedented way for a goalie.
Think he'll ever grasp that you can't do that job by trying to make everyone happy?

Acquiesce to Levi I can see in the backdrop of Portilio refusing to sign and Johnson being on the fence.
Can you imagine the reaction to losing 3 of 3. Thankfully, he went 2 of 3 and trade the 3rd.
It is all in the right spot now. |

Maybe they need players that have self respect ?
Brady tkachuk type guy that doesn’t need to be forced to play a certain way
2nd youngest team in the league still - Boss34
Morale has an effect on everyone, hard chargers included. It just might take them longer to be worn down by the apathy from management and ownership. |

They have no reason to show because there are no repercussions for just mailing it in.
If they suck, it's: "See you on Monday, Kevyn. We'll get em next time, or not. Whatever. Terry's check cleared." - Hank Balling
It's like a few weeks ago after some game where they looked horrible and during the postgame presser, Donnie was asked about none of the players being around postgame to answer questions and take responsibility. His response was, "who would you like to talk to to? We can arrange something." Like it's a PR request. The fact that they got out of there as fast as they could to avoid having to answer to their poor play didn't even cross his mind.

The dissatisfaction with Okposso and Girgs isn't necessarily about their production, or really their lack thereof.
IMO it is them as being symbolic of the failed effort to do what was necessary to win. It's pathetic really that those two are pointed at as being leaders for a serious hockey team...rather, for a collection of players the owner likes on his team as good guys, sure I can see that.
Let's not confuse the two. The Sabres as an organization are not serious about winning, else:
-Terry wouldn't be President, rather just an owner paying the bills
-Kevy wouldn't be GM, rather the Accounts Payable Manager, maybe Administrator
-Donnie wouldn't be Head Coach, rather Development Coach
-all Assistant Coaches would be Insurance Salesmen - IonSabres
Said this the other day to a buddy of mine. It's pathetic.

Johnson might be the best development of this season. Still surprised he signed after not burning a year at the end of the season.
Guess we'll see long term with Levi vs Portillo. Wish they had both.

Having both would increase your chances of one of them working out.
Rather have two chances then one.
On the comparison, don't look at their AHL numbers so far. |

For sure, but Portillo made it clear he wasn’t going to sign here in Buffalo
Levi seams to be settling in well in Rochester |

How about proving a top 3 QB is already past his prime going into his age 28 season. Try that first |
