Definitely hit the feels man, I had the mullet as a kid because of watching the 91-92 cup runs with my grandfather as a kid. He had them recorded on VHS tapes. I used to watch them over and over every time I'd go to his house lol

Oh man, I remember those runs and I had them VHS'ed as well. Watched so many times. Wish I knew where they were now, I'd have them converted into a more modern media type hahah |

I was in middle school for those first 2 Cups. I remember that blow out in Game 6 to win the first one like it was yesterday. That was the first time a team I rooted for won anything. |

You trade everyone but 87..... 87 leaves in a year when his contact is up. So you need to trade him too if you go down that route.
Not saying I would do this, I wouldn't, but you don't get to have your cake and eat it too here. Sid isn't staying if they tear it down. - Tojo.
You don't trade Crosby because you don't trade Crosby. At some point you have to put everything else aside and give him the option of staying or leaving; he's earned that as the face of the franchise and league.
But everyone else, including Teflon and Geno, the Pens should be open for business. It's officially over. |

Literally just need some top six wingers willing to give a little extra. Maybe resign Carter and you’re good to go. |

Mathematically incorrect and I don't think the players think like this at all. They probably wouldn't even be professional athletes if they thought like that.
I don't think the Pens are making the playoffs. However, the players know they are nowhere close to mathematically eliminated, yet. There really is lots of time left to get into playoffs. Again, I dont think they will but I also dont think they think its officially over at all.
Crazy that the PP once again did them in last night. Its just insanity at this point. |

The players know they are a deeply flawed team and the future isn’t bright
They’ll still play hard on a game to game basis because that’s what competitors do, but guys are gonna start looking for greener pastures
It’s the difference between losing on a team on the upswing and one on the downswing towards mediocrity/rebuild. Ones motivating. Ones not

Sid is their leader and they will follow. He hasn't given up. He wont give up. Again, I dont think they get it done but I really dont think they actually think they have zero hope or that its officially over haha...not yet |

PP was trash despite scoring. But an even strength goal would have been nice too. Imagine trying to win 1-0 on Jagr night.
Here's a crazy stat. In 52 games, Crosby, Guentzel, Malkin, and Rust have a total of 67 ES goals. The rest of the forwards have 38. I looked back several seasons and that supporting cast was never close to under a goal a game. |

Awesome pic man & probably an even better memory for you personally! I had a chance to meet 66 when I was in grade school; got his autograph and remember the words he said at that moment. I was 17 back in the day when the Pens first won the Cup in '91. We've been treated to some world class hockey over the years. Very fortunate to have been around for all 5 Cups! |

My uncle used to take me to the Igloo before the games, I got pics with so many of the Pens players - Mario, Jags, Barasso, Coffey, Loney, all those guys.
Jagr was my favorite player by far, I even grew the mullet as a kid lol that was either 91 or 92, so I would have been 5 or 6 lol it was awesome.

Mathematically not out of it, yet. They have a tall ask in front of them. Sitting on 55pts, they essentially need a min of +40pts over their remaining 30gms to hit 95 (historic PO threshold). Thats a points conversion rate of 0.667. Reaching 97pts bumps it to 0.700. Still 7 back with lot of traffic ahead of them. They need to string together wins and hope some of the teams in front of them struggle. They essentially have no margin of error remaining.

The last month or two, you can visibly see the body language change after the PP fails. Even Sid looks flummoxed. They weren't real good last season, but I don't ever remember a Pens team who lost confidence like this one.
I agree, it's been slowly sinking in for weeks. They won't give up, but they know this season is done.

That is crazy.
With regards to last night their PP wasn't even a +1 haha even though they scored one on it... they also let one in. Failed to convert on the other 4 PP's.
I can think of at least a dozen games that the Pens scored a few even strength goals, or more, but didn't convert at all on any of the PPs in the game, sometimes being scored on while on the PP, and lost the game by 1 goal. At least a dozen games. Thats anywhere from 12 to 24 standings points. Insanity. |

I know Phillips should of shot on that last PP but If I'm putting myself in his shoes and its my first game with a team full of "legends" (his words) on PP the whole world knows is massively underachieving I might not be that greedy in that situation, either. He almost connected with the Pens blade for a tap in, as well. It was very close.
I actually thought he looked pretty good overall. |
