Raison d'etre is an interesting one- great with dessert. Would probably be great for making some desserts
- Schenn-Sational!

Nice pork tenderloin with pears and nutmeg...

Assertive, and not for chugging but real good, like you say, with food.

Wow, yeah. Their IPAs are in the West Coast style - very big. I actually like their other offerings, like the chicory stout and Raison d ĂȘtre.

i'm a huge fan of West Coast IPAs. my favorite beer style.

we have a butt-load of Chicory Stout at ConBev. a little licoricey?

Just became available in ontario this year.

In cans, not bottles, but still good.

I think most of the beers in this thread are good with food rather than chugging.

Side nite: Had some trafalgar brown ale yesterday, went perfectly with the Sri lankan food we were eating.

Like a more woody coffee flavor. It's a very dry stout (opposed to creamy) which I also like. And they get the chicory right, it's a note at the end but not too much up front on the palate.

I like big-ass IPAs too, but every other great brewer out here has their version. Great Lakes, for example, makes Burning River which is hoppy but not the same, the big IPAs have tons of malt countered by tons of hops... and sometimes sacrifice drinkability.

So when home, go for something that's rare for where I am now.

I'd never turn down a 120-minute if offered though.

If you get a chance to buy flying monkeys netherworlds, do it.

It's got the hoppiness of an IPA, with the malt of a stout.

Fantastic brew.

Love that stuff. Ayinger Celebrator is even better though. Dopplebocks are so tasty

The Spaten beer we have now is just their premium lager/helles. It's excellent for the price but it's no Optimator! Well, unless I just missed it. I haven't seen it in a little over a year at the LCBO myself.

It's pretty great. I was expecting it to more or less just be exactly like all the other flying monkeys beers but it really does have a nice almost porter-like character to it.

talk about sacrificing drinkability:

168 IBUs. the "Warheads" of 2xIPAs. we have a bunch of this too, and from what i can tell, nobody's touching it because of the amount of IBUs.

I've had Super Collider from Flying Monkeys. It claims it's 160 IBUs. I don't think you can even taste the difference at that point. I sure couldn't. It didn't really taste any more bitter than a standard 60-70 IBU beer.

My favorite local distributor "had" a case of this sitting on their shelf today. As far as Belgian IPA's go this one ranks up there with some of the best available on the market. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME!!!
