Not very fancy... but I like it... will be enjoying it during the game tonight...

Not all macros are bad, and this is one of the better ones. As much as I love my snobby beers... If I want to get drunk on a hot sunny day, I'm going for the cheap stuff. Refreshing, and easier to drink.

Now excuse my while I get back to my hop bomb.

Beer for the Super Bowl:

1) Brooklyn Monster Ale Barley Wine - My buddy got a growler of it, had a glass and it was a pretty decent and typical barley wine - molasses/brown sugar sweetness, dark fruits, bready and maybe hoppier than most of the barley wines I've had. 10.8% with a very noticeable alcohol burn, it was a strong way to start the night.

2) Dogfish Head Midas Touch - I bought this 4 pack hoping not to be disappointed. Heard alot of positive and negative reviews for it. We actually both enjoyed it. 9%, very little alcohol, if any, noticed with this one. Alot of white wine grape on the nose, herby, honey sweetness. Would definitely drink again.

3) Unibroue Maudite - 4 pack, wasn't too bad at all. Maybe it was just my taste, but it had more of a fuity/spicy wheat beer taste to it. Hard to explain. The only other Belgian beer I've had is St. Bernardus Abt 12 (quad) and there wasn't a whole lot of similarity between the two. 8% and actually tasted better, as most complex beers do, once it warmed up.

4) Innis & Gunn Rum Cask - 4 pack, Scotch ale, had it before, still love it. It's a sweeter beer and was a good way to end the night. Light mouthfeel, sweet, oak/rum, dark fruit and slight earthiness on the nose. 7.3% with only a slight warmth from the alcohol, brown sugar sweetness, rum/oak/vanilla and some spice come thru in tasting. A definite after dinner sipper/dessert brew.

Pretty much all the Unibroue beers seem a little sweeter than most Belgian style ales. I like that they are different. I actually prefer them over most Belgian ales.

I like Innis & Gunn beers a lot too. They're pretty underrated.

La Terrible
La Fin Du Monde
Trois Pistoles
Maudite
Don de Dieu
Blanche de Chambly

That's how I'd rank their standard beers I've had a bunch of. I have a friend who likes Maudite the most though, and another one who likes all of them but Trois Pistoles. Opinions vary lol.

I don't even remember. Is that the apple one, or am I thinking of Eau Benit or whatever? I've only had them once and it was in the middle of a drinking session at the pub so I don't remember anything specific about them lol.

I love how my local pub has Maudite on tap permanently

i'm not sure it's hard cider, i think it's actually a beer brewed with apples.

i don't mind hard cider, just not my first choice. kinda reminds me of apple-ey champagne, the couple i've sipped on, anyways.

Ma, do you think I'm crazy that I got a lot of cidery-ness from the Maredsous on Fri?

I couldn't miss it, but sometimes my palate is totally on acid.
