Tough week at school and now it's beer time. Starting early so I can be nice and drunk for the Sabres - Sens game. I'm nervous, so I need to be drunk!

The first beer of the day is "Dale's Pale Ale" in a can. I've never had it before.

This is a good beer. Very hoppy and quite bitter. The can says "A Huge Voluminously Hopped Mutha of a Pale Ale".

Me likes. NYCers, you can get it at Whole Foods. All others, I have no clue where you can get it.

Hey, that's my beer! Really though, that sounds nice. I don't think I've ever seen a good IPA in a can like that, it's interesting. I don't think I can get that here in Toronto though- how sad. Every time I hear someone mock American beer I always think of the near endless amounts of amazing microbrews and chuckle to myself.

You got it, plus there are some local places with wide variety, the Premier store in Kenmore has a good selection.

Never been there... I only knew of the Premier wine store (I think on Transit...), they have a beer store too?

I should check it out

My bad, "Mudflap" sounded like an actual town name in Alabama.

Does have a certain twang to it! I tried to pick a state that would be least likely to post on here!

Did you make the "Quebec beer run" to the Costco?

If so what was the price?

LoL. I was just talking to a co-work to saw my screen and as I was walking out to go have a smoke our VP over heard us talking about beer and he got all excited. He said there's a beer place by his house that has over 150 different beers. 30 of which are on tap. They have tons of Microbrews and he's a member. Has had 127 different beers from that place so far. LoL. He even showed me his card that is marked for 127 beers. I think I need to find this place. Must been beer heaven.

No I didn't have time to go across. I ended up just buying at the local Beer Store. I had 5 of these last night and was impressed - it's pretty good.

I don't like Labatt's Blue.

Why do people love it so? What's so special about it? It's watery and boring. It's basically a Bud Light.

I just thought I'd throw that out there. Thoughts?

They market this beer well, and people "think" it's good 'cause "all those hot chicks" can't be wrong.

Also in Canada, during high demand times of the year (summer) they add chemicals to speed up the brewing process, and it gives a skunky taste to the beer. Also there is an issue where the water comes from. Any beer brewed in Quebec, that is also brewed in Ontario is head and shoulders better tasting, even thought they are the same brand.

Well most Canadian's actually think Canadian beer is good. It is a common thing to think when it's the only beer you have drank.

They also believe that Canadian beer is stronger (alcohol) than American beer...................but don't realise that it is measured differently in each country, and if they were measured using the same method, they would find the opposite is true.

Once most Canadians are exposed to beers from other countries, they soon realise the misconceptions they had when they were younger.

Unfortunately Canadian beer isn't actually any stronger than American beer. We, and much of the world, just measure the alcohol content in terms of the volume; the US measures based on the weight of the liquid. Look it up.

BTW...........is the beer thread on it's way to surpass 400 posts?

Does anyone know the "Buzz record" for number of posts for a thread?

The reason German Beer is ranked so highly among expirenced beer tasters is................

GERMANY"S PURITY LAW
Following is an English translation of the Reinheitsgebot (German Purity Law) adopted in 1516, the oldest provision still enforced to protect the consumer. This is taken from the article "History of German Brewing" by Karl J. Eden, published in 'zymurgy' magazine, Vol. 16, No. 4 Special 1993. "We hereby proclaim and decree, by Authority of our Province, that henceforth in the Duchy of Bavaria, in the country as well as in the cities and marketplaces, the following rules apply to the sale of beer:

"From Michaelmas to Georgi, the price for one Mass [Bavarian Liter 1,069] or one Kopf [bowl-shaped container for fluids, not quite one Mass], is not to exceed one Pfennig Munich value, and

"From Georgi to Michaelmas, the Mass shall not be sold for more than two Pfennig of the same value, the Kopf not more than three Heller [Heller usually one-half Pfennig].

"If this not be adhered to, the punishment stated below shall be administered.

"Should any person brew, or otherwise have, other beer than March beer, it is not to be sold any higher than one Pfennig per Mass.

"Furthermore, we wish to emphasize that in future in all cities, markets and in the country, the only ingredients used for the brewing of beer must be Barley, Hops and Water. Whosoever knowingly disregards or transgresses upon this ordinance, shall be punished by the Court authorities' confiscating such barrels of beer, without fail.

"Should, however, an innkeeper in the country, city or markets buy two or three pails of beer (containing 60 Mass) and sell it again to the common peasantry, he alone shall be permitted to charge one Heller more for the Mass of the Kopf, than mentioned above. Furthermore, should there arise a scarcity and subsequent price increase of the barley (also considering that the times of harvest differ, due to location), WE, the Bavarian Duchy, shall have the right to order curtailments for the good of all concerned."

This does not apply to expoted beer, and therefore must be kept in mind where comparing beers. You will notice the difference if you have ever been to Germany, and drank the same brand of beer on both sides of the atlantic.

There was a lot of hockey last summer with UFA's and a bunch of Carolina fans that have since disappeared. I'm off to the pub boys.
