it's the only time I've seen it, so I splurged. I hear it's not bad, just different.

Have you had this beer yet? Tastes a bit like hickory sticks. Really good though. I almost didn't try it because of a very negative review from a friend but the smokiness is actually pretty subtle.

People say it is offensively smokey, etc but I just didn't get that at all. Tasted like a good marzen that had a bit of a hickory stick/smokey taste at the end. Nothing more.

Honestly I thought it was really tame.

As in almost all things, leaf fan we will agree to disagree. Seriously though I thought it was overpowering. To each there own and why not.

Not as good as I hoped. Very hoppy, even for a Belgian. If you can get past that, it has a nice smooth finish, but like herpies, the hops remain. st. bernardus is still the best monk brew i have had.

I don't mind well hopped Belgians. Quite a few tripels are like that and Belgian IPAs are yummy too. I like hops in general so that's no surprise I guess. I've never had that one though.

Now I want to drink scotch. Really wanted to avoid doing that before going to a stag and doe tonight, which means lots of beer drinking later. I'll let mrs schuter know my ensuing drunken behavior is all your fault.
