Never saw anyone get busted for it, but every pub I went to in Belfast had the shamrock on top.
- jtswinehart
I've seen it done in some Irish pubs in the states, it's pretty cool. I think Guiness requires "certified" bar keeps to do that.

The beer we drank in Rio was "Solar", not bad, a pale ale, locally brewed.
To Wizard: I just did a job last year in Belfast, and my boss at the time (a Limey) said to try the Guiness, so I did. I didn't much like it, but that's just me, I don't like eating my beer. As a side note: Did you know that to be a bartender in Belfast, you MUST be able to make a shamrock in the foam with the tap? Pretty cool. The bar can also be fined if more than 5% of the pint is head.

- jtswinehart

That's funny. I worked at a bar in Manhattan and I asked the boss if he wanted the bartenders to do the shamrock thing with the Guinness. He said, "Hell no! We don't do that trendy, touristy sh!t here! This is a real pub!"

I always knew that guy was a moron.

Yep, he is. But then again, if you go to Ireland, DON"T kiss the Blarney stone. It's true, they piss on it.

The guy is a Moron, Guiness is anything but trendy it's been around forever! Trendy is putting a Lime in Corona which I'm sure he was happy to do!

If I absolutely MUST drink Corona (which would mean they were out of everything else), keep the damn yuppie limes please.

There's nothing wrong with Corona. Its a good beer. The Limes... Well, if I'm at a bar and they throw it in there than yeah fine whatever but I don't make it neccassary to have it in there.

This is most bars around here don't serve anything but Bud, Bud Lite, Maybe a choice of Sam Adams, Miller, and on occasion Michelob. At that point I order either Hieny or Corona. We go to Applebees alot by my house cause there's never a wait and now they have Stella so I can always get a pint of that.

He did! HA! I'm gonna have to go back to that bar and tell him the news, right after I order one of his "neighborhood bar" metrosexual sake cocktails.

Your last sentence was your saving grace; "Corona" & "good beer" have no business with each other ...Now Stella Artois; that's a fine brew

Your correct Stella Atrois really is a fine brew. They even serve it in the special Stella cups! Over Corona isn't a bad beer. The reason it's so popular is because it's not very strong tasting. It doesn't hit you with the BEER flavors as would a Lager. It's one of those beers that you can sit with a bunch of buddies on a hot day at a BBQ and drink a ton of them.

Funny story about Stella:
I travel alot for my job (I install newspaper presses) and have been all over the globe. I like to try local beers while I'm there, right? So, I'm sitting in a little sidewalk cafe in Nantes, France; and I ask the waiter for the best local beer, and what does he bring me? A Heineken. I sent it back, saying, no I want a French beer, and after bringing me a Bud, and a Carling, he finally brings me a Stella.

Personally I would much rather have the Stella @ the BBQ...But yur spot on when it comes to some friends, & the women-folk; they kinda prefer a beer without much "flavor"

If you want to try a beer with some flavor try Tiger, it's an Asian beer, so may be hard to find, but well worth the search.

Actually there's a beer by the name of "Fischer" that's French, & it's horrid!
1 of my all time favorites is Pilsner Urquarell; them Bohonks (aka Czechs ) really know how to make a fine Pilsner

A cold Corona with a lime tastes kinda like lime water, don't get me wrong I don't think it's a bad beer but it does sort of rank with wine coolers in the scheme of manly drinks

Coors Light is another that comes to mind in this category. If you have a bunch of friends over there's nothing wrong with Coors light. I mean hell it is watered down but that's what it is a Light beer, very very light beer. You still get the beer flavor but it's not as strong.

Now if your sitting down to enjoy a game at home there's obviously "better" beers to have. I personally have taken a huge liking to Brooklyners Weisse beer. I love the stuff. That's MY new beer.

Is it from Thailand? If so I may have already of had it.

A buddy of mine was in the Army; stationed in S.Korea; the Koreans have this "drink" called Soo-Ju (pronounced so-jew)...Long story short it's usually mixed with either soda, or a fruit juice; it looks & tastes like a really crappy vodka ...The kicker is that it's made with cabbage, rice, a few "other" things, but to enhance the fermentation process they actually use a bit of Formaldehyde

Sounds delightful, nothing like a cabbage drink to enhance the gasses in the morning. It's a dessert topping and floor wax!

Ick, no, I think Tiger is made in Indonesia, though I'm sure it's sold in Thailand. I had it while working in Taiwan, so it's sold all over SE Asia. Like all beers we can get here though, is it really the same as what we would get if we were there?

The pressroom in Taiwan had an Asparagus drink that was pretty popular as well as a cabbage soda.

man that crap was potent! Something like 100-110 proof (50-55 % alcohol); he told me all the GI's could get a 6-pack of the stuff for around $2...A 6-pack would be just enought to get several people really messed-up.

That dessert topping is a line from an old Saturday Night Live skit (Dan Acroid). I can't imagine drinking cabbage soda and an asparagus based drink! Piss that smells like asparagus and lord only know what comes out behind

Never tried the cabbage soda (I'm too gassy as it is), but I did try the asparagus. It's ok if you like asparagus, but not exactly a hot summer day kind of drink.
