man...i've been searching high and low for busch...i can't believe they have it...and at such a great price

- _nay_

WTF. Well I guess the term "Craft" has been commandeered. I assume ABInBev now owns its rights and every time you use the term, you owe them a shiny nickel.

Got them yesterday... Updated with dates

Will maybe trade a couple. Almost all of the worthwhile beers are imperial stouts. A bit redundant in a tasting.

I know I could get a lot for the female doges Brew... but I probably will never get the opportunity of tasting it again

I will say I'm not a fan of that Black Forest - kind of just obvious. Saranac makes a good Lager, Adirondack Lager, and the rest to me is pretty forgettable. That parent company (Matt) recently bought the local purveyor here - Flying Bison. They've done well by these guys - letting the brewmaster do his thing but giving them access to distribution and marketing Tim (the brewmaster) couldn't get to. And Tim helps brew their product - it's a great symbiosis.

So a great company, even if that's not my favorite of their varieties.

Just traded a 2010 Saint Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout (already have 2 2011 and 4 2012) for 750ml bottles of Belgian Brett APA and Quad from L'Harmonique, a very small microbrewery who are starting to win some contests in Quebec. I believe I made a good deal.

Why are there so many good breweries in Quebec? It's a shame they don't really distribute outside of Quebec because they don't get the respect they deserve. Really only Unibroue and Dieu Du Ciel are widely available outside of Quebec or bars in the rest Canada.

last time i was in montreal i had a day by myself. i was trying to find a bar where i could get some of these quebec beers that i can't find in the US, but it was surprisingly difficult

i'd love to try this!

yeah you really have to do your research before you go there. most bars suck but the good ones carry a large selection of quebec beers.

i need to go there next summer or something. such a great city. i just wish i spoke french.

I figured you would.

I cracked one open late last night and poured it into a Chimay glass. It was excellent.

A nice departure from my usual hoppy beers.

We're getting Achel Bruin (I don't think it's Achel Extra Bruin but I'm hoping it is) and Rochefort 10 here in time for the winter. St Bernardus 12 is coming here soon as well.

The only way this could get better would be if this came back too.

There aren't a lot of those downtown, if that's where you were searching. St-Bock are very good. Most of the time they have about 20 beers on tap, 50% being their own and the rest being from other breweries in the country. They also sometimes have a couple of somewhat rare belgian beers. Had some Gueuze there once. Not too far from there is the Amère à Boire. They only carry their own products, but all their beers (Czech inspiration, not bottled) are great. There a couple of other great pubs/brewpubs (Pub Broue Haha, Vices et Versa, Succursale, Dieu du Ciel), but you'll need to do some research and planification before going, if your hotel is downtown.

But the best thing you can do, as a lot of Quebec's best breweries (Charlevoix, Brasserie du Lièvre, Naufrageur, Pit Caribou, À l'abri de la tempête, notably) are from the country, is to go in some specialized beer store (Peluso's the best) and buy everything you can bring back to the States.
