Generally speaking the higher the ABV the maltier a beer is which leads to more complex or intense flavours.
- daeth

maybe it's because my go-to beers are porters and most of them aren't that high in abv so i got used to it.

i don't know. i just know that a lot of times when i try a beer over 6ish i'm not as into it.

i mean there are exceptions. i think that breakfast stout i'm raving about is higher than that but i don't really notice it in that one. that one is just pure goodness.

Sounds like you just prefer beers that are a bit more subtle. There are tons of good beers under 6% so that's not a bad thing.

A lot of my favourite sours come in around that mark I think. They're a bit different though since ABV doesn't seem to matter at all when it comes to their funkyness or sourness.

why does more alcohol make it better for some people?

serious question, btw. i only ask because i noticed that i seem to like most of my beers under 6 or 6.5 and i don't really know why. i think maybe i feel like i can taste the beer better or something that way.

also, PM me a crash course on corsi when you get a chance. just the basics. ty. i mean i get it but i don't really get it.

I'm not really an expert either. But I know that people who absolutely hate it know less than me, so I can use it to troll them if I want to.

And I'll defer to daeth's beer knowledge too. I'm not usually a fan of high alcohol beers either.

thomas creek coffee oatmeal stout

first time i've tried this. it's pretty good. i taste a lot more chocolate than i do coffee but whatever. smell is straight up hershey bar but the taste is more dark chocolate than milk chocolate. carbonated and creamy at the same time somehow.

pretty good, not great. i'd try it again (and i will cause there's one more in my fridge)

EDIT: as it's warming i taste the coffee a little bit more.

i get that it's how the team does when they are on the ice for them as opposed to when they are off the ice. but what is it, just how many shots they get on goal?

i feel like all this advanced stat stuff is great to use in conjunction with what you see with your eyes, but i still feel like what you see with your eyes should weigh much more into the equation than any stat or advanced stat. so many other things can affect stats from plus/minus to all these advanced stats.

i'd like to understand the basics of it so i can use it when i'm on the fence regarding two players that i think are pretty equal in talent. but that's probably the only time i'd really look at it super closely.

Have you been able to try this yet? It's probably the best coffee stout I've ever had.

They also make a beer called Aphrodisiaque. I believe it's made with vanilla beans and cocoa but it tastes natural if that makes sense. It's 6.5% instead of 9.5% like Peche and it's fantastic too.

Maybe we already talked about these beers before, my memory fails me a lot.

gonna have to try to find this now that i'm looking into them.

The 2nd release in Thomas Creek’s Atypical Series -Banana Split Chocolate Stout. It has made brief appearances at the TC tap room.

A dark chocolaty libation that boasts caramel, toffee, and roasted malt flavors. It is crisp and smooth, allowing distinct banana overtones to satiate your daily dose of sinful indulgence.

Style: American Stout

Availability: 750ml bottles, corked/caged. Draft

7.5% ABV, 52 IBUs

I need a really good banana beer. Wells Banana Bread beer wasn't banana-y enough for me and I don't think I've had another one. Chocolate/banana sounds like a good mix.

It's the top rated beer in Canada I think. It's on nitro almost 365 days a year here luckily.

There aren't a ton of affordable choices in the downtown area of Toronto so it doesn't surprise me much but it is pretty funny.

new jersey is mostly a disappointment as far as what beers places have on tap. i mean you find places here and there that are okay. i think there was a place called the pour house that had an okay selection (at least when they opened, i haven't been there since) and a burger place near where i used to live that had a pretty good selection. but most places here think they're fancy if they have blue moon and stella on tap. but i'm only 15 minutes from center city phila and there's a ton of good places there.

i do have one good liquor store 3 miles down the road that had an excellent beer selection and a half an aisle of singles you can buy so it's easy to try new stuff. so that's pretty cool.

You probably have access to more good beers than me really. I can't complain though since I have a friend in Quebec who constantly mules beer over to me so I get to try most of the really good stuff coming out of that province. I don't know what's up with Quebec but the beer coming out of there is insane.
