Why exclude the rest of us? I can be there in 5 hours! I will be vacationing on the beautiful Canadian shores of Lake Erie at the end of the month what should I expect to pay for a case of beer? When I was youngster we used to go to canada to buy all the different types of home grown brews and they were actually cheap (circa 1980). Now Canadians come over the boarder because their beer and licquor is cheaper here.

Probably, the taxes in Ontario are probably higher than the taxes in Quebec. Just like the taxes in New York are higher than the taxes in Ohio, Texas, Florida, North Carolina fill in the rest of the blanks

We used to do that every weekend in the late '60s, run across the Peace Bridge for beer, liquor, cigarettes and fireworks. Hit Crystal Beach and head home Sunday night, great times!!!

Well in Ontario, the Government controls the sale of Beer wine and booze. There is a network of "The Beer Store" outlets and some smaller towns have Beer and wine Sales in grocery stores, but the prices are all the same across the Province.............no free market here when it come to Beer booze and Wine.

As I have not bought a case of Beer in Ontario for YEARS.........I can only suggest other posters fill you in on the prices.

I do know that a case of 24 of MGD (imported from the USA) sells for a little more than $36 in the "Beer Store".

Actually I purchased a case of 24 MGD at the Beer Store nearly a month ago. I paid around $49 after tax.

Damn. I pay $31 and some change for a 24 case of Brooklyn Brewry beer and that's even alittle high because it's a Micro.

Hell I can pick up a 30 case of Coors Light if need be for $17 tax included..

Just for comparison a 24 case of Corona is only $22-$26 (depending on the store) and change with taxes included

It's not exactly a 1:1 exchange Zero. You'd have to look up the daily exchange rate to be sure.

Ok, I just looked it up, today $1 US = $1.06 CAD.
I have seen it reach as much as $1.26
So, for every dollar you spend they spend .06 more + whatever tax.

He means the Canadian dollar is not as valuable as the American dollar. A few years ago it would take $1.30 Canadian to get $1 American. These days it is around $1.04, so not too much of a difference.

I wass in canada this weekend and the exchange rate is zero at most places. I believe the actual rate is around 4%, still the prices for beer seem high. I can get 28 Molson Canadians for $18.00 here, 30 Labatts for $15.99 and good imports for under $25.00 per case.

A case of Coors Light around here goes for $34 I believe. Corona is around $44 - give or take a couple dollars.

I understand the exchange rate too but even factoring that in it still seems high.

It is, last time I was there a pack of smokes was $8, a bottle my favorite Rye (Weisers) was only $24, so not too bad.

It does doesn't it!

Doppleganger mentioned it earlier though. In Canada, especially here in Ontario, the government controls the sale of beer and alcohol through Beer Stores and LCBO's. These stores can sell their product at a higher price because there is no competition. Also, beer and alcohol are taxed rather high (along with many other controlled products). This bumps up the cost to the consumer quite a bit.

It does seem odd that we can buy Canadian beer for less in the states, on the weekends there are buses of people from Toronto and south that come and buy stuff here. When I go to my favorite licquor store there are always many Canadian people buying boat loads of spirits, which I'm sure they declare at the boarder

You (Canadians) have to be out of Canada for at least 48 hours before you can bring back (across the border) any beer or liquor. And I think there is a max of two cases of 24 beers per person 18 years or older.

If some one knows the exact limit or rules please let me know, as I am taking a trip to Montgomery Alabama in a few weeks, and plan to bring back my max.

BTW.........if anyone knows of anything or place I should visit while in Montgomery, I would appreciate your insight.

I was in Buffalo for one night in November. On the way back we stopped at Duty Free and picked up 2 cases of beer, for each of us (6 in total). We should have paid duty but got off.

Beer thread still going strong I see. Figured I'd stop by and leave an update.

Been drinking a lot of Sam Adams lately... the summer mixpacks, good stuff.

Has anyone ever had Sapporo? It's a japanese brew, goes down really smooth.
