Mexican Beer does suck...how people could drink Corona is beyond me.

If you have to shove a lime into a beer bottle, then choose another beer.

Have you tried Dos Equis? I like it better than any other Mexi beer.
- jtswinehart

Dos Equis makes a dark beer that's pretty good, the rest are pretty much tasteles and where do they get the water from?

"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed - Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.'"

However, the Dominican Republic makes a decent beer: "Presidente". It's a pilsner that tastes alright, kinda like the Czech "Pilsner Urquell". Not quite, but alright. If it's at your local store, you could do much worse.

- Rayzablades

Oh dear God no. Never again. Spent a week in the D.R. for a buddies wedding. Fruity beach drinks get pretty old, pretty quick. Especially on a week-long power drinking binge. And the only beer they had was Presidente. Worst intenstinal fiasco of all time. Might be good in small doses, but I strongly advise against drinking it for a week straight.

UM, haven't ever heard the phrase "don't drink the water"? What exactly is beer made from? That includes lettuce, tomatoes, watermelon or anything else that is mostly water. Trust me I know, I've been working in S.A. for most of the last 10 years.

Well, ask a german about beer. I live in Munich

If it'd be Pils then I'd go for Flensburger Pilsner.
-> http://www.flens.co.uk/

If I go for Weißbier (white beer) It'd be Erdinger.
-> http://www.erdinger.com/

Special Brews if you're in germany close to Munich I'd recommend Cloister Andechs.
-> http://www.andechs.de/index.asp?lng=en

If I am at the Oktoberfest, I like Augustiner or Hacker Pschorr the most.

Negro Modello is a pretty tasty brew

I'll agree that many of the other Mexican beers are average @ best.

Have been to "Thee" Oktoberfest in München twice. 1985 & 1991. Have been in the Hacker Pschorr tent many times during each visit.

If anyone is planning to go to Oktoberfest in München, you must undestand that tables inside the tents need to be reserved in advance, and it helps if you know someone in München.

My first visit involved a lot of walking around looking for seating outside of one of the tents (you have to be seated in order to be served beer). After we meet people, who had tables reserved, they invited us to join them in subsequent nights ( and visits ).

To get an idea of what it is like check out the Oktoberfest web cam in München while the festival is on.

I'm planning on being at the lake in Canada next week, probably try a few selections that aren't available in the States. I will be in Ontario and the prices are not very user friendly.

OK, peeps! I was out in Brighton Beach yesterday, kicking it with the Russians (Brighton Beach is an area in Brooklyn with a heavy Russian population), and I came across a few Russian and Eastern European beers.

Unfortunately, I was drinking ad so I forgot a few things. I just remember that one translated as "Miller", as in a man who works in a mill, which I thought was funny for obvious reasons - one of them being that it tasted as bad as American 'Miller' - watery and plain. Another was "Baltika", which is an interesting beer because they have around 9 variations and all according to a number (1-9). I think the numbers have something to do with the alcohol content. These are not bad beers - hops, flavor, decent brews. It's the second most popular beer in Russia (Heineken is the first).

http://www.baltikabeer.com/

I also brought some Czech and Polish beers home. This was the best...

A crisp lager with a lot of flavor. I liked it much better than Pilsner Urquell. $1.69 for a pint.

Another very good lager was...

Almost as good as the Klaster, only a little less festive, but definitely good company. $1.69 a pint.

Finally, I have a Polish beer...

I was surprised this was so good because it was so cheap (99 cents a bottle), but it also has a 7.8 % alcohol content, so it can get the party started quicker than your average beer. It also has a nice, clean, slightly sweet taste.

Tried 3 new beers on Friday night -

Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale - very good, similar to Newcastle but more expensive

Boulevard Lunar Ale - another Brown ale, but tasted sweet - almost seemed like it was a mix of soda and beer - probably wouldn't but it again

Murphy's Red - good red ale, but I didn't think it was anything special - maybe my taste buds were fried after the Lunar Ale

How many 7.8% beers does it take to get drunk? You buy this one bottle at a time, is that in a grocery store?

About 3 of these and I'm in a good mood. And yes, this is sold in single bottles. I almost never buy whole 6 packs for any beer unless I'm buying a large quantity of beer for either a party or when my Coors-loving brother comes over.

Rickards is pretty awful. It wouldn't be so bad if it was cheap, but the fact that it is so damn expensive on top of being so tasteless makes it awful!
