citra hops are apparently where it's at. like grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, and in a nice crisp beer with a real snappy bitter hoppy ending. if that poop sounds good to you, and even if it doesn't, go get this beer.

also, the person to whom i gave the big muddy vanilla stout also gave me big muddy vanilla stout (we hadn't seen each other since before my birthday). we both knew the other was a big fan of breckenridge's vanilla porter so we figured they'd like this.

i know that the person i gave this to is going to have the same thing to say about it that i am: you, sir, are no breckenridge's vanilla porter.

this looks like a cola in the glass and it feels like one too. it's not creamy or anything because it's way too carbonated, which is something i normally like but it just isn't working here.

this is novel and it's nice. i'm not going to tell you to turn one down. but it's nothing as special as i'm sure we both hoped it would be. it's okay.

so here it is. i know you've all been thinking about this every day for over a week and i apologize for the delay but the holidays are a busy time for kicksave856.



now right off the bat i can tell you that i knew going in this would be a tough one because it's a russian imperial stout and they've all been a little too boozy for me. this one is 10.5%. it's not as hard to deal with as some others but it's still a little too alcohol-ey for me personally.

that said, when i'm not overwhelmed by the alcohol taste, this is a pretty good taste. very roasty. very coffee-ey and dark chocolatey. probably baking chocolate comes to mind more than anything.

it does that thing these beers do where it lets out a crack followed by a loud wet fart when you open it and it does all that hocus pocus in the glass when you pour it.

i can tell you this: the (frank)ing thing smells delicious. it's like standing in a coffee shop. the high alcohol gives it a little bit of a licorice smell if that makes sense.

as you'd expect, it's smooth and creamy AF.

and "as i wrote previously", it's a pretty wicked looking can. my second skull/skeleton beer in the last month or so.

this is probably well over 8 s2tp's for those of you who are into these heavier commie stouts. unfortch, it's not necessarily for me. i'll finish them and all but i really like the taste of beer and anything over 7 or 8% always seems to drown too much of the taste out to me. with these porters and stouts it covers up the coffee and chocolate that i crave and with IPAs it drowns out the taste and the refreshment. so unfortunately, i can't really give it a fair s2tp rating. but i can say i think it's worth trying if you are into bigger beers than i am.
