Flyers should get in on that party. Take that free draft pick.

I think DB will be able to weaponize his cap space.

Tampa and Toronto and other teams spend over the cap to win. Flyers have LTIR to use. Why not use it? The Flyers make plenty of money.

I think he can and I think he will….funny thing is a guy like Walker….a guy like Monahan…sometimes you can get a cast off in a deal that has value. It’s dangerous, but sometimes you get lucky. I mean we also have Peterson and Atkinson. But if they can bring in a crap contract that really has no bearing after next season that’s also a way to gain some valuable assets.

I agree. You can get assets for these guys at the draft or sometime during the summer if they are under contract. The UFA's should be moved if possible. I might consider keeping Walker for the right deal, but if he wants more than a two year deal move him!! If you get another first rounder offered to you for Laughton...move him too! Staal isn't gonna bring anything back and I think they are gonna resign Seeler. Risto isn't being moved now, but perhaps something can be done in the off season. TK isn't goin anywhere, so folks need to just move on from that idea. Perhaps if negotiations go bad in the off season they would consider moving him, but it ain't happening now. Can you imagine this team without him right now? He is the straw that stirs the drink.

Yes, I can imagine this team without Konecny. With him they're a playoff bubble team. Without him, they're getting a much better draft pick.

And about $9mil+ in additional cap space and additional assets.

Question with LTIR.

I believe Ellis and Risto are both on just IR. SO if they were to be moved to LTIR, how much would that increase their cap to maybe be one of those teams to take cap on to help facilitate a deal and gain draft/prospect pieces?

The Flyers would be allowed to exceed the cap by the AAV of the player. So, the Flyers could exceed the cap by $6.25mil if Ellis went on LTIR.

Yes and no. The Flyers currently have 5.6M of cap space, so they would first have to increase their cap spending by 5.6M to even have LTIR available to them. They can do that by acquiring a contract or contracts worth that much. Then they can use LTIR to get additional flexibility.

Owen Tippett, Morgan Frost and Travis Konecny I'm guessing.

Also Couturier, Drysdale, and Sanheim.

But if they wanted to, they could weaponize it and try to take on money to gain assets? Which is something I hope to see them do. Take advantage of that space as teams that are cap strapped need to move cap space out.

Right. So they really could assist other teams facilitate trades. I want them to be aggressive. Get additional assets anyway possible. Especially if it only costs money. They have plenty.

Its up to Crosby ...if they resign Guentzel Crosby isnt going anywhere....if they dont and Pens are even worse next year could see Crosby seeking a trade to Avs to play with his buddy

I don't think he will ever leave the Pens for any reason.

I kind of agree. He has nothing left to prove that's for sure. However, he is super competitive. So maybe a 5% chance he leaves?

Tortorella already firing all of his bullets. All in an effort to be a bubble team. Hysterical. Another reason why he is the wrong coach for this team.

Just a matter of time before they tune him out.

If they keep Walker (which they should not) as long as the cap hit is inline and his term coincides with Bonk getting to the big club, it should be ok. That fits your 2 year thought, but even 3, outside 4, as long as Walker is healthy, with right cap hit, he can be moved.

Walker's only had two good seasons in his NHL career and both were in contract seasons. Probably not a coincidence. Flyers would be smart to move on.

Unless Risto does the team a huge favor and retires, there's no room for a multiyear contract extension for another RHD.

Just last month they traded their supposed top center prospect for a RHD.

https://allphly.com/morga...erm-fit-questions-remain/

Right now, Frost does have a spot as one of the team’s top three centers. But out of the three, Frost’s long-term hold on a job appears the most tenuous. Sean Couturier may not be all the way back yet as a play-driving monster, but he has eight points in nine games thus far and (more importantly) has seven years remaining on a massive $62 million contract that includes a no-movement clause; most likely, Couturier isn’t going anywhere. Noah Cates last season provided similar offensive totals (eight fewer points) while grading out as far better defensively, and as long as Tortorella remains in the mix, Cates isn’t going anywhere.

That leaves Frost as the offense-first center in their mix, except 46 points in 81 games isn’t exactly standout production for a player with little two-way value. Without a further scoring leap, it probably won’t be enough to keep top prospect Cutter Gauthier from taking Frost’s spot down the middle once he signs his entry-level contract and turns pro — which could happen as soon as next spring.

That is the obvious move for sure, just looking at both sides, have to live with it one way or the other. I mean to pull a first when he was a throw in, pretty good. Similar could be said for Seeler. Hitting their ceiling this season is fun but not optimal, other teams not playing well is not helping either.

One thing to keep in mind. Let’s say the flyers actually do sell and they take a positive step in this rebuild.

What effect does that have on TK wanting to re-sign? Does he then decide I want to win and test free agency? Does ex selke then ask for a trade (didn’t he say something he doesn’t want to wait around and go through a rebuild?) at some point as clearly they will not be cup contenders for a few years at least.

So do they go into the deadline thinking we can’t hurt TK’s feeling and throw in the towel as we need him? Same to a lesser extent for ex selke.
