It's not like the Leafs were playing top end playoff teams over the last 4 games. Fleabag teams at best. - PrinceLH
Philadelphia and St. Louis are still presently sitting in playoff spots. I get your point - they're not exactly world beater teams.
If I were a gambler, I'd bet Minnesota passes St. Louis by the end of the year for that last WC spot. I also doubt Philly maintains their spot in #3, and if they fall out of that spot to Jersey - I'm not sure they are better than Tampa or Detroit for the final two WC spots.
That said, with an ailing team of sick people, injured people, a bunch of AHLers and their top defenseman suspended, the Leafs have fared pretty well and collected points we'd all hoped they would.
I won't bemoan that - and will also notice that after they lost to Vancouver, they had a pretty tough 10 game schedule with Winnipeg twice, St. Louis twice, Philly, Dallas - and the Islanders and Sens, who they too often lose to - as well as Anaheim and Seattle up, who you'd hope they'd beat. They came out of it 8-2 which is more than any of us thought they would (except, of course, Zezel) given the way they'd been playing.

You think they can get 3 1sts in value? from who?
Liljregren is worth Sandin minimum(1st plus rental Gustafson which is a 3rd)
What team is giving more value than this? Who? - Santo_44
3?
It could be two 1st or better prospects/picks |

I didn't think they'd beat the Jets back-to-back, or that Sammy and Jones would stabilize the net. They're on a 100+ point pace, which shouldn't surprise anyone.

Lilly plus a 1st has more value than 2 firsts.
Okay who?
If you think someone can offer more than that value you surely must have a team and names in mind, or you are talking out of your ass. |

“Mr. Rielly pursued Mr. Grieg for some time, and had sufficient opportunity to engage him in a different manner, e.g., with a push or a shove or even dropping his gloves to fight. Had he done so, there would likely be no need for supplementary discipline,” Bettman wrote.
So next time that happens get Reaves to drop his gloves and beat the living poop out of Grieg and there is no discipline
I think that statement will come back to bite him in the ass. |

Except this situation could never happen since Reaves will never be on the ice when the Leafs are looking for a goal, removing their goaltender in the process.
But Bettman basically sait the exact same thing the DOPS did.
To no one's surprise.

I thought that .500 for this road trip would have been a success. They always lose to Arizona, so let's see if that trend continues. Any points against Vegas or Colorado would be a bonus. After that, pretty much in the east, travel-wise.

I agree with Bettman's statement here, but I also don't mind that the Leafs won 4 straight in response.

Doesn't matter who it is.
The point is the NHL suspends you 5 games(sometimes ) for crosschecking someone but you are allowed to beat the poop out of someone and it be totally fine.
Gudbrandson only got 1 game for pounding a guy in the head multiple times
I am not saying it did not deserve a suspension but this league is a joke and has absolutely zero clue how to keep their players safe.
"don't crosscheck a guy but go nuts if you want to pound a guys face in!"
for the record all 4 players involved deserved what they got...However a strong argument could be made that Gudbrandson should have gotten more and Rielly less. |

Spear someone in the gonads 5K fine
cross check someone in the jaw 5 game suspension and 300K of your pay gone
Someone make it make sense
BUT if you cross check Bunting or Simmonds in the face during a game its nothing |

all this suspension talk is nauseating. WHo's better Nylander or Marner? |
|
|
|
LeBrun just said on TSN that Fleury would lift his NTC for the Canes, AVS or Leafs. I must say, I am seriously perplexed at the idea. Acquiring a big, tough stay at home D would be optimal imo, but if that fails... Fleury can choke sometimes, but when he is on a hot streak he can very much cover for a lot of defensive lapses. |
